I for o e am getting sick of bears on my permission farm. They invade the ridge above my shooting house on heavy acorns years. This just happens to be the best bedding area for deer on the property. Always a couple coming through, but on heavy acorns years, they are unbearable. Saw a sow and cub this morning. A really big boar a couple of evenings ago at 165 yards. Between them and the coyotes and bobcats it's a wonder i ever have a fawn or turkey live to hunt.

Can you shoot them?
No. What really aggravates me is that I have asked the TWRC on a couple of different occasions to allow hunting of bears on the private lands within the reserves. That there are too many bears. They did allow it in Kettlefoot and Laurel Fork. But as we have bears all over the state now, there is no longer a need for those reserves. I don't even think North Carolina side has it closed now. I could be wrong, but we used to have a reciprocal bear agreement for management. Now you can even bait bears with non processed food in North Carolina. We should have followed suit 15 or more years ago. At least to a degree. Allow bears to be taken with Archery equipment over bait for the at least a portion of the season and all private lands within the reserves open with regular seasons. There were nowhere near the amount of houses within the reserves when they were established. I know the neighbors and even the landowner I hunt on would like to have some gone. I talked to one fellow who said he had to give up on chickens. A big 600 pounder kept tearing down his coop. He could never catch him in the act or he would have ended the problem. There are similar stories from all the neighbors around there.
