I sprung for a breeding pair set of David Smith decoys in 2017. They have been the demise of several Toms. I don't believe there could be a more realistic turkey decoy and I have enjoyed filming angry Toms giving the jake what for many times. I often hunt with my crossbow and they were so involved with these decoys that they never knew I was there. Recently while transporting the hen a small split appeared in the crease of the feathers on the back. I contacted the company and sent a photo. No questions, no conditions just plain great customer relations. I received a a new replacement with a new tote bag within 3 days. All I can say is I am a fan and thankful there are still great outdoor products companies still around.

They make some pretty decoys for sure. I couldnt imagine toting them around for 5 or 6 miles in a morning though. Just dragging them all over the place would make for a miserable hunt.

I think they are more geared toward people who have a good field or food plot to set up in. More of a weekend hunter type deal. They are really nice looking decoys.

I'm sure you are right.... but sitting on a field or food plot as my only spot to hunt for the day just hoping a tom sees them and comes in sounds even more miserable than toting them :)

For some reason, I don't mind sitting for hours waiting on a deer, but I cannot stand sitting in one spot hoping a turkey comes by. Now, I don't mind staying on a bird for hours if I KNOW he's around gobbling sporadically waiting on him to get in the mood to come to my calling. But I need the interaction between myself and the bird for it to be a turkey hunt to me.

You and me both. I am a very impatient turkey hunter when they are not gobbling. I know that it affects me sometimes in not waiting long enough in a setup and probably bust some birds prospecting. I know that up front and am okay with that. Playing the game is the fun part for me. I would rather be fishing if they are not gobbling and will try another day if they are not. I just can't deer hunt one but to each their own. I have a buddy at work that his son can sit for hours on end waiting for a gobble.

I have a neighbor who's a decoy watcher...has a call but honestly don't know if he knows how to run it or not. Told me one time he'd just stuck'em out there and barely got back to his tent before a tom ran right into the middle of the plastic turkeys. Agree 100%...I'd quit if that was my only option.

I guess there is a mindset that can be taken about every aspect of hunting that's not appealing to someone. I use a crossbow frequently turkey hunting and it's not a compound nor a longbow and yes, it and a bag of heavy decoys wouldn't be fun to carry miles around along with the latest knock em sock em TSS 80 yard turkey loads in the latest 80 yard capable shotgun. I was only posting about a quality product and and good customer minded company. Decoys, blinds, superguns, super shot loads, binoculars , special calls, camo patterns ...there are lots of things you don't have to use to be effective but it's not a contest.

You're right it's not a contest, however the decoy crowd is all about the kill without the work or knowledge. To them it is a contest, how quick can and easily can they kill.

It's all about the traditions of turkey hunting being eroded into nothing by lazy unskilled people who just want to kill without actually learning to hunt and therefore justify their lazines by lumping camo, TSS, etc into the same group as decoys and tent hunting,

I'm pretty confident I have the skills and accomplishments to routinely kill turkeys and have been doing so since the first season I remember some 40+ years ago. I killed 3 of the 4 turkeys I killed in Tennessee this year with a crossbow because I no longer can draw a compound and it requires more skills to be successful. I killed plenty with a bow and gun before decoys or blinds were popular. Just because someone uses decoys occasionally that doesn't indicate their ability or aid in ruining the sport. My miles have become more just acres in a days hunt. I don't aimlessly sit on a food plot and wait for a silent gobbler. I wouldn't enjoy that but some, without other opportunity might. I hunt quite a bit of public land and hunt with kids even with hundreds of acres of private land available. I video way more than I take and love to watch the interaction with decoys. I don't use decoys often and I may not be the expert you must be but hope I never become so judgmental of people legally hunting differently than I want to.

Talk about a post to stir the pot lol you ever been into the sports forum?

Oooooohhhhh weeeeee get tha popcorn out!!! I've got Dave Smith decoys and I love em. The only Decoys I oppose are the reaping decoys. Anything else is fair game. If all you got is ag country and fields to hunt how else you gonna get them to come to you?! Unless you crawling and bushwhacking. A decoy seems way more sporting than that lol.

Guy tries to provide his good customer experience and gets ambushed. Holy thread derailment.

Plastic Turkey builders who provide good customer service are raking it in due to the inability of those who know no other way to kill mostly "pet" Turkeys. Might have to go in to this business and make my fair share of googan money :)

Easy answer learn how to hunt. Growing up we hunted south Alabama field turkeys and decoys were illegal. We killed plenty of them by learning how to hunt. We didn't ambush, we didn't bushwhack. These are ag fields that can be 500 acres and the birds would pitch straight to them every morning and never leave.

The answer you're looking for is people don't have the skills or the desire these days to learn. They just want to kill as easily as possible. Oh and make excuses when it gets challenging as you do above

Far from it, but just illustrating the fallacy in your view that you can't kill an ag field bird without a crutch.

Here we go again, how about a , "that's good to hear" or "good review" to the OP comment about customer service, I don't believe he asked anyone what they thought about hunting with decoys, I am sure if he is on here much he knows exactly how you feel! would hate to see this forum go the direction of some of the others where folks don't say much or are afraid to ask questions due to the BS backlash from keyboard bullies whos ways are always better and apparently, "the only way"!

me neither, I can't stand to deer hunt a turkey. But some people seem to enjoy it, and some people don't know any better, or care to walk very far to find a bird.
