Walked back to the same stand I shot a coyote from yesterday morning. Settled in about 20 minutes before legal shooting light. Saw a small doe right at first light. Saw another deer, a spike a little later. About 6:30 about 180 yards straight in front of me I see a deer on a scrapeline. Could tell he was decent. He got behind some tall grass and started coming straight at me. All I could see was antlers above the grass. He got to about 150 yards away and started turning into a lane I had cut. Given what we have seen the last 2 years and lack of decent deer on trail cams, I guess he was good enough. Squeezed off a round with the riflle I built last year, my handloaded 6.5 eld x found the front of the shoulder and exited behind the off shoulder. Dropped in his tracks.

First deer with this rifle, AR10 platform. Feels good to kill one after not killing one last year, especially after knowing at the beginning of this year that I needed open heart surgery and didn't know if I would be able to hunt. Thank you Lord for the blessing and this beautiful morning.

View from the stand right after I shot. Spike walking down the lane. Spike acted like he was going to try to fight with my dead 8 point.

Not my biggest, but a 17 inch inside spread, and pretty decent deer.
