I bought a set of decoys (1 jake, 2 hens) a few years back. They seem to have worked pretty well for me in the past. Can't remember what brand they are. The jake has lost its beard and is starting to look faded so I'm thinking of buying another set.

Would it be safe to buy a set and combine with the 2 hens I already have? Are the potential differences in sheen/color/texture enough to make a gobbler suspicious? Should I toss the old set and start fresh?

I mix decoys all the time depending on the situation. I have even used stuffers with older foam decoys. I have several Hazel Creek stuffers but for the money Avian X can't be beat! Great decoy! Sorry for the extra....

A can or two of spray paint might be all you need on the old ones unless you just want new ones. If that's the case and you buy a set (1 jake & 2 hens) I'd toss the other ones or you could just buy the jake and keep using the hens. I don't think they're quite that smart to tell the color is a little faded but I've got where I don't use decoys much these days unless I have a large field or opening. In the woods I don't use them at all.

Just paint the ones you have if you can. If you have the foam ones I reprint mine every year.

You can buy new ones and mix and match if you want. Unless they have totally different finishes
