Well I screwed that up...
Envision a ridge. About halfway up from bottom is woods. Above that to the top is pasture. The woods don't run all the way to one end...I was in that corner. The toms came up from bottom..out in pasture. They didn't get closer than about 50 yards. They went on to top...and out towards other end. Where I was was only about 30-35 yards from top. Its about 500 yards to far end...the way they went. After a bit..I heard them gobbling out that way...I can't see anything that way from where I am in the woods. I thought/hoped I could call them back, or that they would at least come back the way they went... backtrack. I called and waited..and waited some more. Nothing.
There is another small field below the woods. I thought maybe they had went to far end, dropped down through the woods, and might be in the lower field. I kept waiting...where are they?
Finally, curiosity got the best of me. My plan..come out of woods on the end, ease up to edge, and see if I could see them on far end.
What happened??? I stepped out of woods on the end...as planned. Looked towards the top...and there were 4 red heads looking at me from just over the crest...
I should have either moved sooner, or waited another minute or two...
They took off running to the left... towards far end. I went to the right....towards the truck!!
Maybe next time I will be more patient...
