After getting county#51 Sunday in Putnam Randell @rrptdp and I discussed a new property he just got permission to hunt in Jackson County. I hate to go in to a new place in the dark so I suggested an afternoon hunt Monday evening. I also want to hunt my place in dickson in the AM. There is a 10 point around I would like to kill.
I climbed a tree in the back part of my place and a beautiful morning with turkey gobbling every where. Saw a nice lil 4 pointer. Then about 8:30 had momma and lil one come in. I busted mamma hard. Gutted pics loaded up dropped off in cooler at the house and started rolling east.
We discussed meeting at the baxter exit and him riding with me up to the property. This was nice it gave us a chance to talk and tell some hunting stories.
All I can say is this property is straight up. We rode my 4wd 4 wheeler to the top on an old logging road it was shaky to say the least. It was clear cut at the top. Then we saw some good woods and walked over..... our property line ended. We tromped around and then came up with a plan. I would hunt the top and he would walk down and find a crossing spot and watch the road. I have no clue how to hunt it but i figured I could see 150 yards and something may cross the top.
I sat up on the top of this mountain... i do mean mountain and just took in the beauty of God's handy work. Stunning. I didn't really have high hope because this was blind hunt and we rode 4 wheeler to the top and walked all over. I prayed for a sweet and tender 40 lbs or less. I got a text from Randall and 6 pointer came down on him and blew. I was like cool. One of us saw a deer.
About 4 pm I saw something 112 yards in front of me. Deer .............. dang its a doe................................
I wont lie I got tore the hell up. Scope was all over the deer. I relaxed for a second and thought I really want this deer eased the ml on to the rest and got steady.
I then did the most stupid thing ever. I didnt punch shoulder but opted for behind the shoulder.
the doe jumped and ran...... 40 cal hole in half dollar hole out but ran 100 yards................ down the mountain
Blood trail ray charles could follow. God met me halfway with a 67 lb er....................
I was very very happy tagged out ML does in unit B. I will hunt overton with @dogmatik next week. Looking forward to that I have hunted with him in clay county a couple of years ago.
County 52 checked off....
I cant say enough good things about Randall. Great fellow hunter. We had a blast.

The ride down was 10x worse than up. A few spots I had to walk the 4 wheeler due to ruts. I was not in kansas any more toto
