Deer predicting the weather?

I saw a lot of deer the week before and leading up to New Years, anywhere from 1pm till right before dark. 60-70 degrees doesn't phase em. Saw a lot on Sunday as well while the cold front was blowing through. Monday afternoon saw a few out feeding while I was at work. Might have something to do with the weather and might also have something to do with deer being deer and feeding cause they're hungry. Lol

Confident they can. Yesterday evening had daylight movement and multiple daylight pics all throughout the day and evening today. Their internal pressure change/front coming alarms are going off and they're putting on the food.

Animals have much more sense about the weather than humans. Our senses are dulled or turned off because we have other means to know the weather and our survival doesn't depend on it. Animals very survival depends on their accurate predictions. Therefore, they must be more tuned into the changes in barometric pressures, wind directions and falling temps. Yes, they can predict it enough to know how to survive.

Snatched down a few lock-ons yesterday afternoon and saw deer out feeding in cut bean fields early (2p).

They must be able to, because my BIL's cell camera is sending tons of pictures this evening from food plots. Deer are chowing down like crazy.
I have seen the same thing over the past week or so. Really the last 5 days primarily. I only have one cell based camera and it's only on 1 of my 5 micro plots. But, that camera is getting a lot of pics over the past week. I presume (never like "assuming" and I'm sure we all know why) that my other plots are just as active too. The turkeys are there too.

I even have some chasing on camera in the last week. The does being chased however appear to be some of the youngest does I saw this season or have on camera. I even have the buck I targeted (but never encountered) this year on camera at 8:30am two days ago. This is only the 3rd daylight pic of him all season but he is a "frequent flyer" at night in the area of the camera.

I was on the road to Bass Pro and back yesterday afternoon and saw groups of 3-9 deer literally everywhere! Even saw 2 bucks wearing 3 does out in the middle of Maynardville.

The surge I'm seeing was only yesterday afternoon. I get one or two pics a day from his food plot cell cam. Yesterday afternoon about 30.

I've noticed that phenomenon for years. Seems a lot of hunters love hunting right after a front. I aim for the last clear weather immediately before. It's not just deer. I see coyotes do the same thing, and actually hunt/feed during daylight. Critters seem to know. Not sure of the science behind it, but I recognize that it happens. It's one of the few predictable deer movements I depend on but we never had it happen this season. Winter came too late. There weren't any really sharp late October fronts, no November snow, not even December. It's mid January & we're just now getting winter.

It would be easy to say they feel the falling barometric pressure, but I just checked my internet weather station at my hunting property and the pressure was actually rising all yesterday afternoon. Don't know what they're keying in on.

But as for "knowing" it's coming, I remember Dr. Grant Woods telling me about when he was doing his doctoral research near Charleston, SC. Hurricane Hugo was approaching and so he ran around his research area picking up his trail cameras. He said he had never seen such deer behavior, with mature bucks gorging themselves on anything they could find. He said he walked right past mature bucks he had only seen on trail-camera because they were so nocturnal. They didn't pay him any attention at all.

That's amazing. I don't doubt it a bit, either. Growing up I always heard farmers equating bad weather with odd livestock behavior. They seemed to know it was coming even when nobody else did.

You can go by what cattle are doing,if up on their feet you can be sure what deer are doing,if cattle are feeding, deer are up feeding.A few years ago when the tital wave hit India, elephants went to high ground hours before the wave hit !Animals know!!

I remember reading about those elephants doing that, and it wasn't something they normally did as part of their daily routine. However they did it, they "sensed" that they needed to get to higher ground, when they normally didn't do this. Most fascinating, they did this hours ahead of the tidal wave.

The elephants reacted to the earthquake, unlike a lot of humans who are now dead. Although how the elephants knew to go to high ground is a wonder. They must have passed that behavior down for generations.

Maybe they were giving the 10 day forecast.
