bought a box of 3" #6 today at academy in franklin, they had a lot of 12 gauge 3 and 3.5 inch shells, but they did not have #5 shot in the 3 inch. They had a few #5s in 3.5, and in 20ga 3 inch. Do the #5s sell a lot more or did they not stock much? Either way I don't see a lot of difference between 5s and 6s. Gonna shoot a couple of the Double X with a couple leftover Supremes to make sure that they fly the same.

it seems to me atleast the 5s are the more popular shot size. not many people can keep them in stock. personally when I shot lead I liked them both they seem to pattern about the same with my set up.

#5 lead is extremely popular and probably the most consistent load. I generally buy my shells by the case or multiple cases. I hate scrounging for shells each year.

same here, I have used 5 and 6 interchangeably, but I lean toward 5s for impact power I guess. Just gotta make sure my POI is the same and patterns are still OK.

Until I switched to magblends I shot #5's. With new gun wanted to try the longbeard 5's and just left academy in franklin. They had 4's and maybe 6's but no 5's. They did have another winchester xr shell but it wasn't the long beard.

The walmart here has plenty Longeard 5's but only in 3". They also have a bunch of other Winchester loads including Double X 5's. I'm really wanting to pattern the Longbeards even though I have enough Hevishot to last the next couple years.

Man I wish a walmart close to me carried the Longbeards. I'm going to have to go to bps in nashville to get some.
I heard the other day that Tullahoma Walmart got some 5's in 3 and 3.5, might want to check. I bought a box of 3.5's at Fayetteville the other day. All they had was the 3.5's in #5, and only about 5 boxes of them.

Our Walmart has the 3" #5 longbeards, I will be going to Lebanon on Sat if anyone would like for me to pick some up for them let me know....we can meet in Lebanon or maybe at BPS...

what time you gonna be in LEB on sat??? i have to go to freaking traffic school for a bogus ticket from 9-1 but may take you up on that if you are gonna be around before or after that.

In the past before last year you had the supreme high velocity 2oz of shot black shell(the best lead load ever) supreme double xx 21/4 oz load red shell.. Now I think the double xx is the old HV 2 oz of shot and he long beards are a new technology to temporarily replace the win extended range shell(tungsten) instead of having buffer in the shot they are using resin which holds all the shot together as it travels down the barrel...... I hope this helps. It is somewhat confusing.

I went to walmart this evening and came back with a box of #5s as well as a box of 333 .22lr. Happy camper

Yep that explains it. Now if I can just remember it. I almost picked up a box of double x and would have had I known they were the old superme 2 oz as that's what I shot forever.

id like to here your results from this,I'm in they same pickle

Shot the #6 3 in 12 g today. They're ok, but not near the extremes, supremes or obviously the long beards. Honestly, the Cheap Remington Nitros shot much better out of my BPS and Truglo, as well as my 870 with the .660 jellyhead
