This was the first time I've had the privilege of doubling up! The birds read the script this morning. We were standing on a fence line just hanging out to see if we could get a location on a bird and then make our move. All of the sudden the orchestra crunk up and I knew we were going to be in for a great hunt. I had 2 big Toms pitch down 150 yards in front of us. I wasn't sure which way they were going to head so I gave a few yelps just to see if they were interested. They cut me off with a double gobble and to my surprise 2 different birds cut them off gobbling over our shoulder. I decided these birds were ready to die so I told my buddy to set down and get comfortable on the treeline. I set up a jake and a hen decoy and then put it in park. The birds were coming in hot and every time I hit the pot the 2 groups would cut me and each other off gobbling. We were watching the birds that we could see at our 2 o'clock position with our backs to the fence when I noticed movement over my shoulder at our 5 o'clock. I took a quick peek over my shoulder and the other 2 toms had hot-footed it over to us and stood at 40 yards. I knew they were trying to pick up our exact location and I knew they were in a hurry to beat the other 2 toms to the "hen" that was calling so I poured it on heavy to them. They worked to the fence we were sitting on at our 3 o'clock position and tried to find a hole in the fence at 15 yards. The were unsuccessful so they turned and came straight at us trying to cross the fence we had our backs on. I had 2 longbeards walk past me at 1 yard!!! When they got to 5 yards I purred and they both fired up! It was incredible. They continued on their mission of trying to find a passable spot in the fence and at 40 yards they found it. The birds are now 40 yards at our 9 o'clock position and we have 2 toms 70 yards at our 2 o'clock position. I knew they were hot so I told my buddy "don't shoot till I say". I started cutting and these birds couldn't take it they gobbled, spit and drummed to 15 yards. I figured I didn't want them any closer and old Joe was shaking so bad I could hear his gun rattling lol so I gave him the green light on the first bird. BANG flop Now my turn BANG flop!!!
