Received my monthly drought monitor email this morning. Have always just glanced at it, but got to digging into it this morning and lots interesting info. This graph for Wayne Co fascinated me as it covers entire period of BHC. As you can see, the last few years have been tough. However 2007-8 was the worst with D4 conditions. That's also when mid TN was hammered with EHD and took years to bounce back. We didn't lose that many due to all the springs we have, but we did lose enough that it took two years for us to recover.

The other thing that jumped out at me was years that we had luscious plots are easy to pick out on graph too.

We are finally out of drought conditions and hope that trend continues for a while.

Where did you find that graph tellico4x4?

See on that graph the drought in 2001? Locally, we had a big EHD outbreak then too. We got super lucky that we didn't have another big outbreak this last year. I know a few who found dead deer this last September (primarily around Dickson), but thankfully it wasn't a widespread outbreak.

Friend of mine found 4 deadheads near Eagleville Sunday on 80 acres that he hunts. 3 looked to be from last year & 1 this year.
 
OK, found the graphing page. Absolutely fascinating. I can clearly see the years drought killed our acorn crop. However, there are also drought years that did NOT kill our acorn crop, as well as years we had an acorn failure that were not drought years (I'm sure some of those were due to late spring freezes). However, I sure wish I knew (or anybody knew, because as far as I know, no one does know) all of the factors that influence acorn crops. I would love to be able to build an "acorn predictor" for a given area, showing the chances of good, poor or total failure acorn production for the year.
