It wasnt for lack of trying to get killed. This boy danced in my corn fields the entire seasons- pretty much every afternoon and most mornings.

Glad the season is over- will be October again before you know it….

Yeah i try to not bother them unless their is a deer i really want to hunt. They dont see us as any threat and i keep all pressure and intrusion low. I may go 6 months between trips into the core of the farm

He wouldn't have danced in front of me for long! He'll be nice bext year also.
He needed another yr for sure. He wjll never be great, but 5.5 is the magic age. He grew very little from last yr.

Late august 2023 as a 3.5

Had a nice 8 in 2022 that looked the exact same in 2023. I think he was 5.5 in 2023. Had him at 10 yards Oct 8 of 23'. Unfortunately found him dead in Dec of the same year. He'd been shot far back and died a few weeks later. I would've killed him this year at 6.5 no matter how much he'd grown.

Crazy that you can let 4.5s go like that.

In the areas I hunt, a neighbor would have shot him across the property line or he would have been road hawked.

The good deer I had on camera disappeared on Sept 15th… about the time a neighbor started visiting his property every week. I assume to freshen up his corn pile.

If I ever reach a point that a buck like that doesn't get me excited I'll take up pickleball or bowling. 😅
Its not the rack for us, we manage by age. My 14 yr old son has passed that deer a dozen times and a couple just as nice. The thrill is the anticipation to see what he will be next yr and since he is a homebody, we should have a shot at him…..hopefully with a bow
