Dunstan Chestnut Trees

I'm planning on buying some trees from Walmart when they get in stock. I am not sure how often I will be able to water them this summer. Am I better off keeping them at my house where I can regularly water and waiting to plant this fall or is it better to get them in the ground?
Those trees, in my opinion, are too large for those containers. If they stay in those containers for the summer the roots will start circling. Saying that, they should be planted now. If you put them in a larger container you could keep them at your house and water regularly. Then you can plant them this fall when they are starting dormancy or are already dormant.
Which ever way you choose I recommend using weed mats and grow tubes. Weed mats eliminate competition from grass and weeds. They also retain moisture in the ground and condense in the heat of summer and add moisture. Grow tubes add protection from rabbits and deer. Also Plantra sun flex tubes are like double walled so they condense in the heat of the summer and add moisture.

It's a frickin' jungle in my family room. Lots of seedlings 20" and up. Second picture, on the right near the sliding glass door, that seedling is 30" not including 8" pot with roots. Got a couple more cold nights then I'm kicking them outside.View attachment 272765View attachment 272766View attachment 272767
I followed your procedures and took my nuts out of the fridge on 3/15 (a little late). I think my temperature was set too cold. Trays off the upper shelves had frost on the soil and the radicals were very short. Trays off the bottom shelves had no frost and nice long radicals on the nuts. About half of my nuts are growing plants. They are the ones from the bottom shelves. The ones with frost in the trays failed. I will raise the fridge temp next year. Question: is it ok to put the plants in my greenhouse or should they be at room temperature?

I am a beginner at this but most of mine had no radicals when they came out of the fridge and the development has been very staggered. Be sure before you discard. Some of mine started right away and others took weeks before the radicals were revealed. I have some 24 inches tall and a few 4 inches tall and all in between.
