Saw something this morning I've never seen before… 4 hens feeding in field all of the sudden flush and fly into fence row, making lots of cackling and cutting. Fully expecting to see a coyote or bobcat, I catch a shadow and 2 eagles swoop through the trees making lots of vocal noise. Next, a third eagle lands in the tree about 30 yds over my head. I assume they were hunting the turkeys, too.
Anyone ever seen this?

Not many eagles where I hunt but did watch a group of 4 Jake's and 2 Tom's today all stand fully alert everytime we heard raptor calls and bird shadows go by them. Was very interesting watching it and they would all do it like in sync

Yes, eagles suck!

I had a 100 yd section of a Westvaco road where I killed four strutting gobs. An eagle built a nest about 500 yds away and I never saw another turkey, hen or gobbler, on that road.

IMO, the rise in the population of avian predators has been one of the major reasons for the decline in our turkey population. Coopers hawks are death on young poults.

And, since the killing of any hawk triggers a violation of the Eagle Protection Act, there isn't much you can do to stop the decline. Avian predators suck.

Saw eagles after some full grown turkeys in Hawkins County while fishing on the Holston River several years back. I even saw one hit a young deer in the back and landed on a tall stump nearby. It was an interesting day to be sure!
