Heck yeah! That works! Seen several guys online that have fabricated small grates that attach to their Buddy heaters....warm a sandwich or warm up canned foods...handy for those all day hunts.....edit to update: actually see where you can buy the grate attachments now....handy.

The grate attachment is simply the strainer/grid that a painter uses to remove excess paint. Sits in a 5 gallon bucket

If you also just pop the front grate off the buddy heater, plug the bottom into the top holes, it holds a sandwich or small pot without having to buy the painter grid.
