Can't be any worse than me...that's why I'm going to K45. I don't stand a chance against those guys in that class, but at least I wont lose arrows by missing the whole target. Knowing the yardage helps a lot.

In ASA shoots it is but as far as I know, all the local shoots are unknown yardage in hunter class. Unless that's how they the other guys shoot 8-10 up in it...they are shooting 10 known and 10 unknown. May have to ask but I have always thought all 20 were unknown yardage locally.

Now you will see how terrible I am. lol

So u have to move out of novice next month? Even though there wasn't anybody else competing against you in that whole class? That aint right. I would think u cud stay if you shot solo. I agree with Crow. Heck with judging the yardage. Some people can do it but I'm thankful for my rangefinder.

The yardage thing is why the Known 45 & Known 50 classes have became so popular in ASA. You're looking at having 4 shoot times for K45 by itself, just to handle the number of shooters. Otherwise, in the unknown yardage classes, it becomes more of a "who can judge yardage the best" skill instead of who can shoot the bow the best. I think ASA needs to re-structure their classes a bit, to cater more to those wanting to stay in known yardage classes. Right now, you can shoot Bow Novice known yardage with 30 yard max. You are just in it until you win $300 or move yourself out...there's no shooter of the year contention for B.N. class. Then you can move to K45...and if you win out of K45...the only place left to go is K50, which is a Semi Pro class. After Semi Pro...where do you go from there? Do you jump into Open Pro class, which is an all unknown yardage class and get smoked by those guys? See...there's no place for a person to go just yet. I think there needs to be another class added in there somewhere...and instead of K50 being a Semi Pro class, it could be a Known 50 Pro class or something.

Yeah I need to move from Novice. I will probably go K45. I hunt with a rangefinder so why not go to a known yardage.

Call me crazy but it does get boring shootin so close but then again you want to win it once before I do. If I could have some spare time to work out these issues with my bow il be there. Hopefully I'll be there.

It's a state of mind with shooting. Shooting foam in general, is boring. So is shooting paper indoors at 20 yards. But it's fun when you make a game out of it. My thinking on it is like this:

The distance may be close quarters...but you have 20 different targets to shoot. With 12 rings in play, shooting a perfect score would be shooting all 12s on the 20 targets. Giving you a possible 240 score (40 up). I realize the game is played by saying you "shoot even" by hitting all 10s on the 20 targets...that's every one's most minimum goal. Everybody wants to "shoot up" by hitting a few 12s. But still...to Ace the course, you would have to shoot all 12s on all of them. And until I can do that...and do it every time I shoot...then I see it as a lot of room for improvement on my part. On a good day, I can only shoot 18-20 up...so there's still a LOT of room for improvement. You gotta set goals for yourself or it will be boring. My goal on every course, is to shoot a clean round...no 8s or 5s...just all 10s and some 12s thrown in there. Once I started to be able to do that pretty regular...my goal has been to shoot at least half of the 20 targets with 12s...and thus far I've only done it once. Been close several times but still can't get consistently get there. So set some goals for yourself...work on achieving them, and it wont be boring anymore.
