Evening hunting

Evenings vs. mornings depend mostly on the habitat and food source . I have done better hunting hardwoods in the mornings , and agricultural areas or food plots in the afternoons .

In my experience I have found that early on I see many more bucks grouped up and going primarily to fields. This time of the year has great potential for taking a large buck with a bow. The bucks seem to break up around mid October so I don't have too much time to get them while they are in the fields early on. Many times I have to back off of fields onto well used trails once I find the ones that bucks are using more than others. These trails work well during the rut as well for mid day or all day for that matter.

I hunt evenings more, because I am more able to. Take the bow and clothes to work with me, and stop by the place I hunt on the way home. Change, walk in, get set by 5:30-6, and I have a good 2+ hours to hunt before heading back to the truck. This works great until Daylight savings steps in and kills that hour off, then it is usually too dark too early, and I have to relegate to weekends and holiday/vacation time to hunt at all.

When you are spooking deer ever evening coming out just when it's cool enough for deer movement, I don't simply care for it, and it has ruined a lot of my hunting spots.
