I hadn't until a few days ago, and always referred to them in a much more vulgar connotation.
I don't know about everyone else, but for me and the folks I interact with nothing addles us more than folks who ride gravel roads all day blowing locator calls in an effort to pin point birds.
I only mention this because of events that transpired at Chuck Swan this morning with a TNdeer member, this member who I will leave nameless, literally rode by me 30 times blowing crow and owl calls in the span of 3 hours. The birds were there but would shut up for 15 minutes every time they heard the truck coming, and stay silent for 15 minutes after they left.
I could care less what folks do on their own land, but this stuff is dangerous on public land. Let's say, one of the birds I was set up on answers road crower, tndeer member X (road crower) parks, climbs the hill, and is now in pursuit of a bird that another is after. Accidents happen, and this behavior is just asking to increase the odds.
Normally I take it as par for the course, but tndeer member X had to drive by my truck every time, and where I was parked there is only one area I would be, it is blatantly obvious where I would be, and there is nowhere else in this area where a bird would answer from other than the ridge line I was clearly on.
I certainly don't own the land, and certainly don't feel entitled to anything, but with the size of CS there are plenty of places where putting safety at risk isn't necessary.
To each their own in the woods, but I urge all of us, including me to use some common sense and not put killing over hunting safely.
As a side note, I saw tndeer member X at the check station on the way out, and for once decided that I would just remain quiet and go on about my day. I am sure he had no idea it was me, or maybe he did and thus the reason for the interference
