Excuses

one excuse i have herd "he just would fly down" my friend told me that he had a bird that stayed in the tree but was still hammering at every loud noise but he sat their for 2 hours after sunup and he never flew down.

Here is my opinion on all five:
1. Call shy........No way. Turkeys don't know we imitate them, especially only in the spring. They may not respond to a call but it isn't because they are "call shy".

2. Henned up....sort of a lame excuse because if you can call the boss hen in, he will tag right along. It't much harder because with those extra eyes looking around, you are more likely to be picked off. You can also bust them up and then start calling because they will be trying to regroup.

3. No gobbling....I personally hate these kind of days but if you are really serious, just set up in an area that they normally use and call occasionally, he may come in silently.

4. Bad weather.....See #3

5. Interference by another hunter.....That happens and really is a valid excuse although if he only spooks the gobbler and doesn't kill him, you can just cool it for a while and sometimes he will respond to your calls again.

Of course, these are just my opinions and everyone is entitled to their own.

idk bout an excuse but this does happen. First bird I killed I hunted him for two days and the first day he stay roosted for 2 1/2 hours after sun up and just would commit all the way in, went back next day and he done same thing with the exception that he hung up just a lil too close lol

how about...

I had a bad set up.

Except that is the truth and that gets me more than most other issues. Henned up does suck too.

The best (or funniest anyway) one I heard may have been on here a few years ago. I don't remember exactly, but anyway:

"The moon is full and they are moving at night".

:D THAT was funny!!

Something else messed him up. When in fact it is usually me that messed him up. One to many steps or not being patient enough. Move to where he is at only to find he is where you where just at. The list goes on and on. Thats why its turkey hunting .

Henned up is my worst enemy. They are with hens already here so basically i deal with that all year. Everyone says make the lead hen mad and they will come looking. That has never worked for me. I must do something incorrectly. This year I am gonna do way more crawling than calling.

I only can hear out of one ear and that gets me every time! I can hear birds but can't figure out which direction they are and I consistently hear and see birds but usually too late or I anticipated them coming from one direction, set up that way and find out the hard way they were actually 180 degrees the other direction! You boys with good hearing have no idea what you got
