Fair pay to play

I think another potential outcome might be that they git rid of the mandatory college time requirements in sports (1 years for the NFL/1 year for the NBA I think) year rule before entering the pros. Kinda like MLB does already. If a player is good enough to play professionally right out of high school or after just a semester or 1-2 years in college let them have that option. It would be rare, but there are always a few stud college players that are NFL ready before most.

I am against it but if it ever happens I think it has to be regulated so no school can pay more than any other school.

So a lower tier school gets the same amount of money such as schools like Bama, UF, UGA LSU etc... ???? That's crazy! The small schools may sell 1 jersey.

True, playing college sports is a privilege, but it is also a huge cash cow for the colleges. It's an entertainment business, plain and simple. Yes, they are getting a free ride education, but they are also putting their bodies at extreme high risk every time they step onto the field to play. Some play with the hope of making it into the professional leagues, while others just play their way through college and don't desire to go into the professional stuff.

I will use #13 Tua as an example. I just started going to the games last year and Tua is one popular dude on and off the field. Kids, youth, and even adults are wearing #13 jerseys with Tagovailoa on the back. That's probably one of the more popular jerseys you see at the Bama games...you will see people wearing them in any direction you look. The official Nike NCAA licensed ones are $90 online for them. They sell a boat load of those jokers. The white Crimson Tide offical footballs that the team signs, aren't very much. You can get them for like $30 and take them to the fan day events and have all the players sign it. They also have to do the little behind the scenes meet and greets, press stuff, etc too. It could all be over with one hit on the field, and they never even get to the Pros.
Show me where you can buy an officially licensed Tua jersey. I couldn't find one on the official NCAA or University of Alabama sites.

The Nuclear option would be for the big 5 conferences join together and ditch the NCAA as the governing body of its football and basketball programs and develop another governing body/amateur football league.
If that happened, the question then becomes do the teams even need to be associated with academics at all? From what I hear most athletic departments don't make any money anyway. Maybe the amateur teams could lease the right to play in school owned stadiums/facilities/mascot logos etc... making it profitable for the colleges.
I am sure there are tons of really good Football and Basketball players cant get into college because that aren't smart enough or that don't even graduate high school.

I think the topic was fare pay to play. If you let all the bigger schools have more money it just turns into a recruiting war on who will pay the most money. It will destroy college football as we know it. Seems to me like there has to be a cap on how much a school can pay. It might have to be a higher cap for big schools and a lower cap for smaller schools. Its not about selling a jersey. I still hope it doesn't happen.

I hope it doesn't either but I think it is going to.

The schools won't be getting or spending any money at all.

I hope not. Free enterprise. States with Professional Sports Teams will be at a disadvantage. For example Florida has three NFL teams, two MLB teams, two NBA teams, two NHL teams, and one MLS team. Then they have 3 high level colleges sport; Florida State, UF, and Miami. In comparison, KY has 0 sport teams and only two lofty Universities; UL & UK. Businesses will have to chose which teams/players gets their endorsements.

I heard an interesting/unique proposal for "paying" players based on their future potential to eventually sign an NFL contract. Basically allow fans to buy stock in a particular players future potential, which would pay a certain percentage if the player eventually signs an NFL contract. For example if I bought 10 dollars in Joey Football stock his freshman year and he ends up signing, it pays maybe 10 to 1 of 100 to 1. Joey Football would bet my original 10 dollars no matter what, but I could potentially make some money as well. I could see the Recruiting sites setting up the player futures markets(especially with gambling becoming legal in more places). Thousands of small 1 or 10 dollar investments (or stocks) could add up to to a nice chunk of money for elite athletes and never cost the schools a dime.
