From Iowa to Minnesota to Wisconsin, it has been a good week. The hunting in MN proved to be a challenge, hunted 4 mornings with only working 1 bird. Last year was too easy there. The trout fishing made up for it though! The hunting in Wisconsin was great. The first morning I heard 6-8 birds on public land. I worked one of those but made a terrible set up and it didn't work out. They all quit gobbling at fly down. The next morning was quite on the roost, not a gobble heard. I struck this bird from a very long distance around 0730 and began working my way in. It ended up being 2 longbeards and several hens on the edge of a big open area. I snuck within 70 yards or so and saw them strut through an opening, I let them pass by and then moved up to where they had just been. A few soft yelps brought them strutting right back to 40 yards. Only 40 states left for a US Super Slam that's a wrap on 2021 turkey for me. Tired of living in a tent.
