Out doing a bit of shooting this a.m. and finally cut a 3" group at 30 yards. I actually shoot better at 30 yards then I do at 20, figure that one out,LOL. 40 yards is still about paper plate size, need to work on it more but still, I figure the vitals on a deer are about paper plate size so I'd still make a good hit but I'd like better.
I'm sure that once I get a Hind Sight and a QAD Hunter drop away rest it'll help with accuracy quite a bit too but at least I see some progress. Anyway, just wanted to update ya'll. Talk to ya' later.

Actually getting back into a compound would be more like it. I had a couple different ones back in the late 80's for a couple years, then went to traditional in the late 90's and shot those for about 5 years so I'm not new to archery, but I've not shot in about 3 years so getting back into it isn't that hard but going from traditional to compound was an adjustment, especially since I'm using sights and a release now. Anyway, glad I'm starting to hit what I aim at,LOL. Maybe I will get a big ol' deer this fall.

Congrats!

How do you feel about the tune job on your bow? A good tune and arrow match can cut your groups by more than 1/2 ;)

Can't say I've done any real tuning except getting my rest squared up and having a new string and the weight set at the local Pro Shop. I'm sure once I get my Hind Sight installed and a new QAD drop a way rest installed it'll help out a lot.
I know I really do need to paper tune my bow, maybe later this summer before season but for now I'm just getting use to using the sights and release and getting use to shooting it.

Gotcha. I paper tune with fletched and bare shafts as a first step, then move on to other methods to finish it out.

I'm working on my long range spots bow for a fita type event this weekend. 1/2 turn of the limb bolts shrunk the width of my 60yd groups by just over 50% (ignoring bad shot flyers). It was all about getting the spine just right. ;)

I really need to get together with some of ya'll that KNOW compound bows to help me get this thing tuned in. I kind of know em' a little but I'm sure that some of ya'll know a lot of tricks and such to really get them to shooting 110%. Maybe now that the weather is getting nicer we all can meet up and do some stump or informal target shooting together. I think that'd be fun since I pretty much don't have any real friends that I hang out with, I'd like to try and make a few, especially since I've lived here in Tennessee for going on 16 years.LOL

First of all Congrats to you TN Frank for the improvement. Keep it up man!!

Now for the hijack (Sorry Frank)

Jay, One of these days when I feel like I can comprehend half the stuff you say....We're gonna have a long talk. lol

So when you are talking about turning limb bolts are you talking about adjusting your tiller? Cause I've got some binary cam/tiller questions I'd like to have answered.

I plan on it. It's my job as a bowhunter to make sure I can put an arrow where it'll do the most good(or harm,LOL) so I can bring down my game quickly and humanly.

I don't know if the pin just fits the little bull's eye better or if the arrows just settle down more but I do better as a rule at 30 then 20, crazy isn't it. I get a few things sold OR get a job and get the funds I'll add the Hind Sight, that should help a lot. Also that QAD Ultra Hunter rest will be nice too. Glad I'm starting this stuff early, that way I've got all summer to work on things and get things tuned in.
As much as I'd like to go with the Magnus Sunffer SS 3 blades for deer I'll probably end up with the Magnus 2 blades, they're a bit cheaper and with a 1.25" cutting width they should do a fine job if I do my part.
I should get the cheap Deer Country broadheads today, that way I can look around for a coyote call and see if I can bring em' in and kill em' before they get my barn cats or the grandkids little dogs. Don't know why but I just don't like coyotes.

I know what you mean about them yotes...Have you tried Muzzy? I've tried them all and always come back to go old faithful Muzzy. 100grn. I've never had a deer run over 75 yards after the shot...
What size pins are you using? Me, .19 in a G5 sight.

I'm not sure, whatever is stock on a TruGlow Lite sight. I think it may be .29, I know in bright light they're kind of hard to see, I'd not mind movin' up to something larger so my old eyes can pick up the color better.

If you've got a call and a bow(of course you have a bow, you're posting in the bow forum,LOL) then I'd love to have ya' over some morning or early evening to call em' in so we can shoot em'.
I've been woke up a few times at 2 or 3 a.m. with em' whoopin' and hollerin' after a rabbit or one of my barn cats.
We'll have to plan out a time to get together so we can take care of em'.
