Ok, it's just a doe with a fawn, but I'm excited because these are the first pics that my Covert Code Black has texted to me since I placed it in Kansas last Sunday. I forgot to set the date/time, so it's hosed up. I totally stunk up the area with scent when I prepped the site, so I was not surprised nothing wanted to come around for a while. Made a lick site on the right with a jug of Deer Cane, and it looks like they've found it. This site has 3 massive white oaks near it and the deer trail pretty much runs right in front of the camera and back into a managed property. I was not able to do a good acorn inventory, but if they are there then this site should have good potential.
One thing that's really cool about these MMS cams is you can text it #500# and it will take a picture and send it to you. That way you can see what the temp is at the site before you head out to hunt it. However, it looks like this cam may be reading a little low on temperature. The recorded low in the nearest city a few miles away from this farm was 51 degrees. I will have to bring a thermometer next time and compare it to what the camera is reading. I also like how the pics show battery strength so you know when you need to do a battery swap.
I just think it's so cool that this camera is a 5 hr drive away from me and I'm able to get pics without having to make the drive. The Code Black is still 2G cellular technology, which could be decommissioned by AT&T in 3 or 4 years. It will be really cool when more 3G cams become available and super cool when the first 4G LTE cams come out. If/when that happens you might be able to have video streamed to you from your trail cam. Imagine that...
Now just waiting for the first buck pic to get sent.
