I went out to feed the cats this morning. For the first time this year, I hear one gobbling. I assume it's from the roost. I'm certain it's coming from a small patch of woods about 300 yards away. I got my binocs, but I can't find him. Is there a trick to it... finding them? The patch of woods is only about an acre, and I think I've searched every tree... nothing. I've heard they will be in the tallest one...is that true? Will he be high up, or just anywhere?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Heck I can be within 50 yards of one in a tree and never spot him. It certainly would be hard at 300 yards with binoculars IMO. I've seen them roost high and I've seen them roost 20' high in a really big and tall tree
I understand... 😂
Just trying to find where he's roosting. This farm is 165 acres...164 on one side of road and one acre (corner) on the other. Guess where the patch of woods is?? 😂
I'll have to call him across the road into an open pasture. The patch of woods is right between two houses.

As already said they may roost anywhere high and low. Get as close as you can without getting busted and set up. If he gobbles again and he's further than you think move again. I try to get as close as I can knowing they're are more eyes than just his. Depending on how much the trees have bloomed determines how much I push getting closer.
