I thought I would post this so those that remember can share what they used to take their first deer. I thought it might be something to pass the time to season. I got my first on opening day of the 2000 season. It was my second year bow hunting. I used a High Country Split Force X1 I had got new earlier that year. I had a 2 piece High Country quiver on it. A Tiger Tough prong style rest, a 3 pin Cobra fiber optic sight with like one inch of fiber per pin. A Cobra stabilizer that was just a solid piece of metal & some kind of wrist sling. I was shooting some 2114 (I think) Easton Pape's Bark Brown arrows tipped with a 100 gr. Thunderhead. I got a pass through on a button buck @ like 15 yards maybe. It was my first deer, first deer I had shot at with a bow, and technically my first buck.

My first deer was also a button buck. October 1992 at Catoosa WMA Bi-Color side. I was 10 yrs old. Bow was a High Country "Silent Hunter" with an Easton 2213 XX75 and 125 grn Thunderhead. I was wearing the original TreBark camo. I think my release was a J Fletcher something or other and a regular TM Hunter style arrow rest. I was getting ready to shoot a big nanny head that stopped behind a tree. I was already at full draw and had been holding for what seemed like forever and saw something move under my stand and there was the button head...instead of letting down I simply moved the bow a little and let fly at the button. I remember the hardest part being the wait...I wanted to go after it right then. Dad was just a few trees over and was one proud papa.

My first bow was a 1985 (?) Jennings Forked LightningI don't remember exactly what accessories where on it, but they were cheap and stone-age technology compared to what we have now. I do remember the broadhead I usedthe Razorback 5 (a gimmick at the time, but the only head I could easily get)....most everyone on here has seen them, regardless of if you knew it or not. (the first Rambo movie where he is shooting the explosive arrows in the river scene were these broadheads with their protective cover on and painted gold) As a matter of fact, I still have one of these relics, on an arrow in case of emergency. :)

it was also my 2nd year bowhunting(1985). we were on the ground when we split up at a fork in the old logging road. my partner jumped the deer and it ran straight at me. I swear I believe the broadhead hit the deer before the nock left the string. the deer brushed my leg as it passed.

bear magnum hunter bow
Easton XX75 2219 arrows
barrie rocky mtn broadhead 125 gr.
no sights

my first bow was a pse bruin 2004. never killed a deer with it missed a big 8. I had Terrible form when I first started but I got that under control quick after that! but after that I was hooked and I have never looked back sense.

Easton arrows
3 pin cheap sight
whisker biscuit
100 grain cheap broad heads

My first bow was a Bear Kodiak Magnum compound. Shot 2216 arrows and a 140 grain Rocky Mountain Supreme head. Never got a shot with that bow but it lit a fire in me so hot that it still burns today. There have been so many bows since then I can't remember them all.

bear whitetal with easton 2219 and 100 grain head of some kind,no sights and a flipper rest shooting with a finger tab. i was twelve in 1989, hunting out of a wooden stand in the edge of hancock couty and killed my very first deer with a bow on my first ever deer hunt and have been hooked ever since. and my camo was a black t-shirt blue jeans and the famous nike tennis shoes.

just started in 2011 but I am on my second bow. My first was a pse stinger, still got it,it still shoots well.I got into bowhuntin as a way just to scout the lease my buddies got me on in Houston co.Spent four months practicing just in case I did get a shot never in my wildest dreams did I think that shooting a bow would replace my other hobby golf!I haven't picked up my clubs in 2 yrs but I pick my bow up regularly.I luv it

It was 1982 at lbl shot my first deer, 63lb doe, using a browning bantam compound 50lbs,no sights, flipper rest, easton arrows, wasp broadheads, used a ben pearson recurve a few years before that with no luck, hey tndeerguy I also still have a few of the razorback 5 around I keep my other broadheads in the orange case they came in.

My first and only bow kill was a 32 yard Hail Mary on the button buck of my dreams. It was being chased by house dogs and ran out into my green field and stopped. I shot it with a Jennings buck master and a 145 grain bear super razor head. I have shot at a lot of deer with my bow and that's the only one I ever killed. I get tore up something terrible with a bow in my hand. Ain't nuthin like it!

Very nice :) not many have ever heard of them, and fewer have seen them I suspect.

I won 3rd place in a National Broadhead Tournament in 1985 with those Razorback 5 heads. For many years, these were some of the best flying heads around but I usually took them out of the box and did some trimming on the cartridge to make them spin more freely.

As far as killing deer, they had less than an inch hole and were not very helpful on opening holes for blood trailing. If you put these through lungs, GREAT...but any marginal hits and you probably had a problem finding your deer.

My first deer kill was a bow kill in 1981. I used a Ben Pearson compound.
Satellite broadhead-the purple ferrule one.
