We made it to the blind about 6:30 heard the first gobble about 7:00. It was almost directly above our blind, never been so close. Heard gobbling all around until about 7:15. They all started coming off the roost, then went down over the ridge except one which went behind us. Called a few times, nothing. We didn't heard a hen all morning. Called a few more times, in just minutes here he comes from behind us strutting , never made a sound. Called one more time before he came in range, then it happened. He came into range and stopped directly behind a big oak tree. I told my son, I'm going to hit the call one more time, I said when he comes from behind the tree to let him have it, so he made the mistake of moving about a foot from the tree still strutting, then it ended up being a bad day for him. This was my son's first bird after three seasons of hunting. 27 lbs, 10 inch beard,1.5 inch spurs.
