Gonna take my son for our first ever turkey hunt. More than likely on public land. No scouting, we're just going in blind. Any advice on how to locate birds, all we have is a mouth call, not sure how to use it yet but hopefully it's a starting point.

Just let them announce their presence on their own. If their in the mood and nearby there will be plenty of natural noises to get them going....crows, owls, etc

Just get somewhere where you can hear and be still/quiet at sunrise and keep a keen ear for distant gobbles as well as close ones

Might I also add...I found using a slate call starting out was much easier than a mouth call. But we all learn at different rates. I cheap box call is also easier to run starting out. Good luck and hope you kill a big one. !

What part of middle TN? What public land do you have in mind?
