Football Time in Tennessee

Milton has a cannon. Going to need a lot of work to get him where he's a good QB and not just one that's got a laser rocket arm, but I reckon that's what this coaching staff is good at? We'll see.

Not what I was expecting for game 1 but we won. It really wasn't at all exciting to watch. 2nd quarter was brutal. I'm sure part of the game plan was to not have a lot on film. Pitt will show us where we really are. Miltons makes passing look effortless but noting about his passing games for me fired up. Sure beats losing to GA St though

Less than 50% of passes. Milton holds the ball too long and has zero touch on passes. Gonna be a long season with him back there if he don't improve drastically. First game so I'll try to hold judgement but it was pretty bad

I'd still take him over JG.

I didn't watch much of it, but as mentioned, at least he is a threat to run and has some speed and power. JG would get caught from behind by a lineman, and wilted at any contact.

His decision making needs to be kicked up several notches or he's going to take a beating holding the ball too long. We need faster receivers to catch up to his bazooka bombs :D !

Hope Mays injury isn't too serious.

Next week will really tell us a lot, but I'm afraid it won't be positive.

If we win 6, it'll be surprising.

I think this team is good to great QB play away from surprising a lot of folks IF they can stay healthy. The problem with that is Milton was AWFUL last night. Looked like the exact same QB that couldn't stay on the field at Michigan. I loved the new offense and especially the run game, but the QB play was just downright bad. Hopefully Heupel can coach him up and get the most out of his potential. The D looked about like I expected. The first team guys aren't too bad but we don't appear to have much depth and will definitely have some games where we give up a ton of points. Overall I'm afraid we are looking at another year of awful QB play holding us back but I am more optimistic about this coach and his staff.

there best qb is not on the field.
Sorta What I was thinking pre season. It won't surprise me for them to try Bailey out at some point soon just to see how it works for them. Honestly I watched only the first quarter of the game last night then found something better to do. Saw MIlton Over throw his intended receiver who did a excellent job breaking away from double coverage which should have been a easy touch down. He picked a spot on the field to aim for rather than going for his man. Its what people have been saying about him all along he has no accuracy. Also saw him stay in the pocket several times and did nothing. Once I could have counted on a Micky Mouse watch how long he stood in the pocket and wound up getting sacked with no yardage. Comon man! This is a game of Inches. When the opposing team which did not win a game all season last year gives you all that time in the pocket to do something you do something. If he thinks he is going to get that sort of time in the pocket against a elite Defense like ALABAMA hes gonna get crushed.

Teams with deep in the roster will find a way to exploit that hurry up offense pretty well. Its only going to work on teams like BG that don't have any depth that will run out of gas in the tank real quick. Teams with Depth will just put out fresh squads on the field on the next drive while that offense is sucking for oxygen in short order.

Not sure why Bailey didn't get some reps.
Agreed..woke up this AM and saw where they ran the score up and figured they would have worked in some of the 2nd and 3rd stringers to see what role they might have played on the team. Makes sense right?

Tennessee is not very good. Works for me though cause I took BG and 37.5 pts. Fairly easy money!
Holy hell where did you find 37.5?
It opened at 33 and I wouldn't have touched it then. I heard it moved to 35 and that was the last line I heard

I assume it's because they ran so many zone option reads. I feel like that was the overwhelming bulk of the play calls and I am afraid Bailey is the least suited to run that kind of offense. Not to say he can't function in a Heupel offense but they would have to modify the calls a bit.

Personally I would give up running ability at the QB spot for a guy that reads the field better and connects on wide open receivers. I didn't have a guy I was pulling for to get QB1, but if I had had to have picked one I probably would have picked Bailey. He's been here and we're not his second home. At the end of the day I want the one that functions the best for the offense, period. We'll see how it goes.

Tennessee invited a team in that didn't win a game last season and was up by 8 at halftime. If it wasn't for a few screw ups by Bowling Green they could have been tied at halftime. Milton will get rocked by a halfway decent team if he stands in the pocket as long as he did last night. Hardly any passing game against a community college. Harrison Bailey should be starting by week 4, if not then it proves TN has yet another idiotic coaching staff. I see 3, maybe 4 wins if that. As much of a TN hater as I am I am really not trying to hate just stating facts ;)

In his defense, they often rushed 3 and dropped 8

in my defense, I'm not taking up for the kid because I was wayyyy underwhelmed by him

THIS RIGHT HERE!!!!!!

Catching up on my required reading :) vols receivers broke away from some very slow BG two man coverage at least 3 times last night and Milton could not throw a accurate pass to save his life. vols gonna have a hard time when they run up against a Elite Defense that is crawling up his rear and he cannot stay in the pocket for a full 5 seconds and is rattled and HAS to get the ball off and his receivers cannot shake off some talented coverage.

Bailey will come in sooner than later and they will have to switch to a more controlled throwing game and ground game.
