I was in the backyard shooting my bow this evening and came across these mushrooms. Turns out they are Indigo Milk Caps. Edible with no poisonous look alikes. What better way to end the holiday than with a bright blue fried mushroom. It'll actually just be sautéed with some butter.

I'm alive and kicking.

Just sitting on the couch listening to my favorite group.

Buzz you a funny man!!!! Never seen any of those mushrooms but then again I had never seen any "bearded tooth" mushrooms either until you posted a pic of some a year or so ago. Then lo and behold I found some. They were good! Unfortunately i've not found any since not even on the same old Beech tree but i'm still looking.
I'll keep an eye out for some of them purty blue schrooms they do look good!!

I sauteed these in butter because everything tastes good when cooked in butter. They were real good. I think if I can find them again, I'll grill them. They had a flavor that I feel could have been enhanced with a little wood smoke. Off to look for some chanterelles tonight. I've got a hot spot that has produced in the past. With this heat and rain, I hope they are coming out.

They're out. I decided to trail run instead of forage, but I saw hundreds of them. I'll be back to fill up a basket or two this weekend.

Well Buzz you got me to thinking [and hungry] soooo I took a little walk about to see if I had any Chanterells on my property. Lo and behold seems I have a LOT!! I only gathered two, one of which i'm not sure of [the one on the left] plus found some Oyster [shelf] mushrooms.
I didn't find any of those purple schrooms though.
Check these pics out and see what ya think.
BTW, those dang dog pecker gnats bout drove me crazy!!!!!

Left= oysters
Right=chanterelle. You can tell by the trumpet shape and how the gills aren't true gills, but more like viens. True gills will break apart if pinched. Chanterelles gills have more resiliency.
Middle=no idea. Don't eat.

You can also lay the chanerelle on a black piece of paper and make a spore print. It's spores will be light yellow to white.

Thanks, you confirmed my suspicions. I think the middle one is called a "false" Chanterelle. Been doing a little research and as you said, a true chanterelle doesn't have true gills. The middle one definitely has true gills.
I also found a bunch of other schrooms that I have no idea what they were so I left them alone. One somewhat resembled a bearded tooth but was growing on the ground so that ruled it out as a bearded tooth. [I think] It sort of looked like a piece of coral.
Anywho, I sauteed the oyster and the chanterelle with some scallions in some butter and they were great!! Then went to Taco Hell and had a couple of burritos. If i'm "unwell" by morning i'll blame the burritos.
If your ever out this way and in need of some fungus give me a shout, I would love to show you around the place and you could teach me a lot.

I can't believe you chased that down with The Bell. [emoji2] . I'll have to make it down that way sometime.

Yeah, I don't know what got into me. I've not been inside Taco Bell in a long, long time. Sometimes I like to walk on the wild side. :super:
Make it a point to come out sometime, but be forewarned, you'll swear you were somewhere in the Cherokee NF. Just wear some good boots and you'll be fine. I'll even offer ya a cold homebrew, just bottled a nice brown ale the other day, should be ready in another week or so!!
