Freshman Of the Year.

Again, I highly doubt he got injured because of his running style or because you said he would.

Were you a receiver or a back? Im assuming receiver since you said running after the catch. There are 6-3 players all over high school and college football fields. Do 6-3 players not playing running back just not get hit as hard?

Even though there are not a lot of 6'3" backs in H.S., College, or thdPros. That's not the point. It has more to do with pad level and not running upright where you are exposed.

Obviously im failing to see your logic here gator.

If a 7 foot tall wide receiver has the ball, every defender on the field is gonna be chasing him and hitting him. Possibly very hard. The same as if a running back had the ball. He could even get injured. Did he get hit hard and injured because he was 7 foot tall?

If you are upright and a defender puts a helmet/pads into the front of your shoulder, there's little protection and your shoulders are more exposed. Your upper body is also exposed. If you run with a lean then the helmet/pads from the defender will likely hit you on top of the shoulder pads where you have more protection. It don't help that he's tall but you are missing the point. It has more to do with his lean and pad level while running the ball.

Eddie George and Eric Dickerson had good careers.....

Can a down hill low to the ground running back not get hurt just the same as a tall guy???

I'm sure even Emmitt Smith got hurt while breaking the NFL rushing record.... He was also a Gator..... :super:

Yes or no please. No gator references.

Any player can get hurt but upright guys will have a better chance to sustain upper body injuries. I made the call back on 03/15/2013. There's a chance Hurd might be fine the rest of his career at UT but there's a chance that he might be injury prone. Time will tell.

That wasn't yes or no.

Every player on the field for both teams are in an upright position at some point during a play. Every player on the field has a 50/50 shot at getting injured. Your either injured or your not.

Derek Barnett is and will be a beast. Hurd performed well as a freshman. He will be a great back at UT.

This should give you something to chew on.... We are talking about running backs....

Yes running backs. I asked you if a down hill low to the ground running back couldn't get hurt the same as anybody else. And of course. Evade and manuever.

Show me a statistic, not just where somebody said so, a statistic. One where it shows an actual higher number of running backs with an upright style getting hurt more than a lowdown RB. I want to see a list of numbers that's show this. Not just a story about one or two guys.

TMS, I agree with GnB. Not because I don't like the Vols, I think he has a lot if talent. He already suffers because of ailments, and has sat out. I have thought from the beginning after watching him and his running style that he will struggle to ever make it through his college career without injuries. He just runs to upright and takes to many hard licks. Much different than tucking the ball with a tighter more compact style.

As far as I know, each time he has been out this season, it has not been because of the shoulder he had repaired. If that is the case, that previous injury has not ailed him. He has taken some licks this year but in case you haven't been watching, he can throw some pretty mean licks himself.

Didn't say he couldn't. Watch most backs, they stay tucked as they come thru the line or across the line of scrimmage. Most will extend and take off once they break the line. Hurd come out of the back field head high. Hey, maybe I'm wrong, just my observation.

Um yea I've seen a lot of running backs. I've seen Hurd.

Like I've said. The guy had almost 800 yards rushing and almost 1000 all purpose yards this year as a senior despite his upright running style and missing nearly 3 games.

He did miss 3 games due to injury but you are not going to convince me that those injuries were strictly due to his running style. I have been trying to say the whole time that tall guys get hurt the same as short guys. Nobody is excluded from the possibility of an injury in football.

Until you or GNB can show me a spreadsheet comparing injuries to RBs with and upright style vs a traditional style you will not convince me of this. :D

Now watch GNB build some kind of BS spreadsheet just to try to put me back in my place. :rotf:

The last time I looked he is still playing, slightly injured but expected to play in bowl! So your theory is wrong he went thru one season

He will be fine? He will work out put on some more muscle and work on his running style? Forget the guy was in HS last year so yeah I say it was a big shock hitting HS guys then taking on the sec as a true freshman he took his lumps and he will learn, get use too, and get stronger for next season:/ JMO I know fans of other teams wanna find something but just not happening
