Food Plots Frost Seeding

Spread 160# of mix yesterday. Tried for 10# to acre but think it was more like 12-13# as I ran out of seed before finishing. Picking up another 50# today & do it Thur or Fri. My mix is 25% Durana, 25% Red & 50% arrowleaf. I do same in fall planting at 16#/acre, but use Crimson then instead of Red. Red is smaller seed than Crimson, so use it for frost seeding.

Have always done it by hand so I could better control rate. I bought a new Spin tech seeder last year for UTV and thought I'd try it on the clover. Used a feeler gage and set gate at 1/32" and went 5 mph. Gonna increase speed to 7 mph with this next bag & see if I can get closer to 10#/acre. Don't think I can close the gate up much tighter.

Update:
Calculated acreage that I spread yesterday with Spin Tech & came out to be 10.32#/acre so right on target. Highly impressed with this seeder!

Got all my perennial clover plots frost seeded today. Around 7 acres total - fields / small clearings / around fruit and chestnut trees. Also ran the saw for about 3 hours creating a 70y by 50y clearing for a clover plot and where I'll plant about 15 chestnut trees come fall. I'm exhausted. Working on that clearing again tomorrrow am

Oh and since when did a 50lb bag of ladino cost $243????? It's always been high, but dadgum! My jaw dropped at the lady at coop

That sounds like some serious work!

And even Crimson Clover - which used to be cheap - has gotten really expensive.
