I buy one every other year or so, just to remember childhood, my grandparents, family gatherings as a kid around Christmas time and that I really dont like it after the first piece.

I love fruitcake. My mother in law makes me one to help get her Christmas stuff out of the attic. Another one when it's time to put it back up. I slide up one and vac seal pieces and freeze so I can eat it during the summer.
Nothing like coming in from hot sweaty grass mowing in July and enjoying a frozen slice.

To answer the OPs question....I'll have to dig around on another forum I visit. There has been several discussions on the subject. Seems one company comes up every time about theirs being the best (but not cheap).
I looked yesterday and didn't find the thread, but will try again.

My Mother makes the best fruit cake. NO booze in it. I will get the recipie over Christmas when I visit. Be looking for it in the cooking forum.

I like it ok...we never buy it...but will pick up a slice to eat while at family gatherings...never had it homemade.

When my dad worked at Coke in Cookeville years ago they gave the employees a 4 pack box of Claxton fruit cakes every year at Christmas time... best I've ever had.

There's a company near Elizabethton that makes a good fruit cake. I'll check to see if I can find the name.
