Hunting older bucks is an endurance test in futility. You've got to love the cat & mouse, and be content usually being on the losing end of it. It'll test a man's fortitude for sure. There are several times a season every season that I feel stupid for even being out there. But that challenge is what I love about it. The harder it is, the better it feels when I succeed.
It's not easy. I consider myself lucky if I kill one that I'm hunting for every 3 yrs. I let a lot of deer walk that most people shoot. You just have to be ok with that if you're hunting the biggest and the oldest. Enjoy the process.
I've been hunting my whole life and never killed a true mature buck. On the flip side my son killed one at age 10. Just about being there at the right time. My sons deer was killed on youth day. I knew he was there but even summer time he was nocturnal. But for whatever reason on that day he came
