rifle as purchased #2
I purchased this on a whim in 2017 from an estate sale that was nationally advertised and happened to be local to me. Little did I know what I was getting into! It is a German combination rifle called a "Bochbuchseflinte", or BBF for short. It is a 20 gauge shotgun barrel over a 6.5x52r rifle barrel. A 6.5x52r is known on this side of the pond as a 25-35 Winchester. It needed a fair amount of work – the forearm had multiple cracks in it, the buttstock had a hairline crack on the left side of the receiver, the buffalo horn buttplate was loose, and the biggest challenge was that there was no scope for the existing claw mount bases. I used a local gunsmith to repair the cracks and refinish the stock. I hand fitted a Pachmayr 500B Presentation Rifle Pad (I still have the original buffalo horn buttplate which is included). The biggest job was fitting the scope. I purchased a 4x fixed power Zeiss Jena scope from Luv2Safari here on the campfire and sourced multiple sets of claw mounts from EBay Germany to get the correct heights needed. I spent hours refinishing the scope and hand fitting the claw mounts for a rock solid fit (photos included). Glass on the scope is in excellent condition. It has a German #4 reticle. The rifle is Nitro proof marked with a date of 1927. I am not positive on the shotgun chamber length (2.5" vs. 2-3/4") so I have only ever shot the Winchester AA low recoil loads through it. It has a fixed choke which I believe would measure as "full". It shoots a tight pattern at 25 yards on the pattern board exactly to the iron sights. It has a Greener safety, brass cocked indicator pins on top of the receiver, a buffalo horn grip cap, 4 hole rifle cartridge trap in buttstock, and 1" wide original sling swivels. Barrel length is 26-3/4" from receiver face to end of barrels. Rifle weighs 7lb 8oz with scope attached, 6lb 10oz with scope removed. Rifle is very thin, it feels much lighter than this.
I have 60+ photos of this rifle and all the included items. I am only attaching a few photos to this ad, but please look at all the links above for the dozens of photos.
