Tried to fletch my first set of arrows last night with 4" redhead vanes on bare shaft. Using the Arizona ez straight jig i thought I had done a great job.....wrong. I went and shot 5 of those arrows and 1 vane completely fell off in flight and 2 others came partly off. Then I went and gently pulled on some others and they started coming off. Maybe I didnt clean it enough. I didn't use acetone but an arrow cleaner. Can't recall the glue name... (at dads house) but was wondering what holds the best? Installing on carbon arrows.

I have used several fletching glues and none of them have held up as well as Loctite Super Glue Gel, plus you can get it at wal-mart for under $2.

Although, what you described sounds like poor prep of the arrow surface. Get some acetone and use nothing else!!!! I very strongly recommend using a $2 vegetable peeler to remove as much glue and old fletching as possible. Then get a green scouring pad and roughen up the surface. Then use acetone and wipe the surface well. Then take a Q-Tip, dip it in the acetone and make a few passes on the surface of the new fletchingthis will remove any oil or particles left over from the manufacturing process. By having a rough surface of the arrow and cleaning both the arrow and the fletching with acetone(the best cleaner and degreaser) you almost guarantee yourself positive results. Apply your glue to the fletching and stick it on the arrow. It is best to let the arrow and the fletchings to cure for at least 12 hours before shootingI let mine sit for 24 hours. This process has NEVER failed me.

I wipe the arrows with acetone before I fletch. Do not be aggresive with the acetone, just drying the arrow good. I use loctite super glue in the gel form, does not mess up my arizona fletcher as much and when the fletcher gets "gummed up" with glue, soak the fletcher in Acetone, it will not hurt it, I have soaked my Arizonz ez fletcher in acetone many times.

Thanks guys. I saw that thread but he said he was doing his over wraps. I wasn't sure if it was the same proccess. I have 2 arrows drying now doing the above process... Fingers crossed.
