Many thanks to TWRA for providing us with public hunting ground or else I wouldnt have gotten to hunt while Im in school in this big city away from home during the week. Anyway headed out today after class just to get out of the craziness in this dadgum city and went to a public land spot that I hunted some during deer season. Ended up walking 3 miles before I found a big flock of turkeys out in a huge field. Watched the 4 longbeards and flock of hens strut back and forth in the field for 30 minutes from 400 yards before I decided I need to make a move when they started headed the other direction. I headed through a swamp, to the edge of a standing corn field and then crawled through the corn. When I popped up they were about 100 yards away so I decided to yelp a few times to see if I could break one of the gobblers from the group. While I was keeping my eye on the 2 gobblers that I could see, this guy came in from my right side and I had to raise up and shoot him at about 35 yards. It took over an hour to walk out of there packing the thing but it was well worth it. I didnt get any good pictures because I was alone and all. Just snapped this cell phone pic. 10 inch beard, 1 inch spurs, and dont know the weight, check-in stations dont even take that info here. Im really glad we have these public land oppurtunities out there.
