I've been reading about the different turkey sub species and the elusive grand slam. It would take a lot of planning and money to complete one over several years and I couldn't even imagine trying to cram one into a single spring. It all got me wondering how many on here have actually accomplished this feat?

I had a hunter come in opening weekend (He's from Texas) and hunt my farm, he is getting birds in all 49 states with a bow.

He flew here from Hawaii where he killed out, hunted my place then was heading to Kansas and Nebraska. As FAR as he knows and can find out, he will be the first person to complete this with a bow. We joke and tell him he's going to have to go to AA for turkey hunting, because he has a problem and won't admit it. By the way he is mounting every bird....

Dang I need to borrow a dollar and some time! That's gonna cost him big.

I have not but I'm starting next year with a Rio. I think I know who you're talking about trying to get it done in one year.

I'm thinking about a Nebraska Merriam myself.

I've got a couple slams. Osceola's are my holdup, for every Osceola I kill I will have another slam from here on out it looks like. I'm way ahead on rios, easterns, and Merriams.

I've only killed easterns, and really have no interest in the others. Don't know why, but having friends who've killed them all their stories just don't make me excited to do it.

Gimme a hardwood setting with rolling terrain and a eastern Longbeard gobbling and I'm content

About all I'm interested in, besides local birds, is an Osceola. But I guess if I had the money I'd do a slam. :)

I hunted all 4 species last yr. This yr will just be 3. As of right now I need 3 Osceola's to complete 3 public land slams. I love hunting rios and merriams more than the others. Love their gobbles!

I would love to get a grand slam one day, but in no way brag and flaunt about it to everybody. It would just be the experience of hunting in different places for different birds.

I love hunting the eastern birds the best, even though I haven't ever tried the others. TV and stories from others gives me a bad taste for the Rio and Merriams on how "easy" they can be. I want an osceola bad, because they seem to be the most like Easterns. I guess because they live in habitat similiar to our easterns.

The sole reason I cannot get a grand slam is time and money. Maybe when I retire I will be able to.

Eddie Salter got a grand slam in 4 consecutive days.

I believe it was in 2010 but can't remember for sure.

Ive done it 6 or 7 times, Id have to go back and look to see exactly how many osceolas Ive got. My most memorable was a double, single season slam I took 3 years ago.

Never hunted merriams or osceola's. But I love to hunt the rio's they are more vocal birds than the eastern turkey in my opinion. I would love to kill a merriam I think they are the prettiest of all sub-species

That's exactly why I want one they are a very cool looking bird. Plus I think it would be cool to go to far away locations with different terrains to hunt.
