hats off to the trad shooters! With Ryan grouping 1" out to 60 yards with his Z7 we decided to try traditional , well after loosing all but 1 arrow(and we started close and worked our way back) we decided to stay with compound .It is smoother and eassier to pull but harder to be consistent with trad bow. When we go to shoots like twin oaks and see guys shooting the longbow like they were born with it in their hands , it is obvious they practice a lot .Ryan has to shoot compound every day to stay competetive so not enough time for trad shooting also. It was fun while it lasted ...if y'all are looking for a cple nice trad bows see the classifieds.maybe someday we will try it again. For all you trad shooters out there ..koodos to ya

if that bug ever bites ya, it's hard to pick up the wheels again. I bought a compound earlier in the year only because my grandson wanted one. other than that I havent owned one in over 12 yrs. yes, it takes practice and dedication.

thanks for the koodos.

Best advice I got was to go light when learning to shoot a recurve. Like going from a 65# compound to a 35# recurve light. Once you get your form and technique down you can go to a heavier bow.

we went in the middle w/50 and 53# , easy to pull but once used to the pins and release is so hard to change.so until life slows down to dedicate more time we have to stay with the wheeled bows. I even cut some Osage just in case we wanted to try and make our own , which I might still do for those rainy days

i got a long bow a couple years ago. its a lot of fun. i hunt mostly with my Bow Tec but every now and then i get out the long. havent killed anything yet but im pretty confident i could kill one inside 20 yards.

It is not easy as traditional bow shooting is a life long passion . I started at age 15 and only stoped when I could no longer walk .
Try shooting your compound as you would a traditional bow, estimate the yardage at the close shots of 10 and 20 yards and try to hit the target without looking at your sights . LLearn how to shoot what you have instintively as it can make you better with your present bow.

Funny you should mention that Locksley. I just yanked the sights off of my compound and went back to instinctive shooting. That's the only way I've ever shot with the 2 compound bows I had in the 80's and my recurve and longbow. Sights were "ok" but I do just as well with instinctive shooting as I do with sights and there's one less piece of gear hung on my bow to worry about.
I guess it's hard to teach an old dog like me a new trick of using sights AND instinctive shooting is like riding a bicycle, once you get your brian "dialed in" it's easy to pick it right back up.

Yep it is always still there just like remembering how to ride a bike once you get your brian "dialed in" it's easy to pick it right back up. .
