Why are deer on their feet in the middle of the day in the middle of the summer? I've noticed this for years now but have never really heard a plausible answer.

Does are nursing fawns and need some extra energy. I've noticed it a lot around here also.

Their hair fibers are hollow and act as air conditioning of sorts. Plus they get much of their water intake via greens, so eating is kinda like getting a drink.

I see it a lot in the Summer as well. Had a doe out here at the house in the middle of the day today.

My cameras showing good deal of midday movement as well. As others stated, I oftentimes see deer moving midday in late July too.

They have a different coat in the summer that the heat doesn't bother em as much if at all

Less bugs to bother them out in the open than in the cover, flies especially.

My assumption has always been that it's simply because they need to eat and as someone else said, they get the vast majority of their water from the browse they consume.
