Help me with a build…

Im shooting the .555 out of a franchi and honestly think it is too tight
With that choke, a 20ga will put more pellets in the 10 than any 3.5 12ga Ive ever shot. YES its tight, but with a red dot or scope, you shoot it like a rifle anyway. Plus, I hate pellets in the breast meat! You either kill dead or you miss clean and thats exactly the way I want it to be!

Have the 20 ga youth model in real tree that I bought years ago for oldest grandson. His 13 yr old brother has been shooting it for 4 years now. Factory full & Browning TSS 7x9 ( I bought a bunch during Covid). Excellent pattern to 40 yds. 6 shots & 6 gobblers so far. I did put a red dot on it.

My very first gun was a 870 youth 20 gauge. I killed the first dove i shot at with it . 30 years later it's still a dandy. Can't go wrong. Later in life my dad drilled and tapped , lengthened the forcing cone and put a leupold turkey ranger on it.

I've build 3 youth model 870s into turkey killers. Pictured are the last 2. All 3 have the same Choate pistol grip butt stock. They come with 2-3 spacers, and are really short with them all out. My boys both shoot Indian Creek .555 chokes in theirs, mine has a cheapo Primos Tightwad .570 in it. We've got other guns we use occasionally, but these are just about perfect. They're short and light to carry, and easy to maneuver with the pistol grip.

Sumtoy makes the best base, but one of our guns uses a base for a Marlin 336. Sumtoy's is more contoured to the receiver, while the Marlin 336 is flat. Both work great. Burris Fast Fires and Vortex Venoms will fit either base. Good luck with your build!

Here's a link to the butt stock we used…

That's all my son and I hunt with these days. I shoot a Carlson's 575 non ported, and he's shooting a Primos tightwad choke . We're shooting hand loaded TSS #9 with Burris Fastfire red dots. I had them drilled and tapped for a mount. Both will put 500 pellets in a 20" circle at 40 yds. They are both bad news for turkeys and killed one a whole lot farther than you should be shooting at turkeys due to an accidental misjudge on yardage in open early season hardwoods. I never plan to hunt with my 12 again.

I can't help with the stock as we use the factory but think several used to use a sure shot thumb hole stock.

I've shot the same.

Get it drilled and tapped with a sumtoy mount. Burris ff3 red dot on top.

Choke: do you want a tight pattern and miss a lot or a good even hunting pattern? I like an even that I can kill to 50 yards. Trulock .575 non ported

Ammo: Tss 9s. I load my own. Apex or foxtrot is good as I used to use apex prior to loading my own.

Good luck with your quest.
