Is it just me, or are the birds henned up already? Seems to be the case where I hunt. Just talked to my buddy who was hunting in Greeneville today, he said the birds were the same way down that way. Seems a little early for that, doesnt it?

I think that they are commonly "henned up" every year until the hens start to nest. That is when the huntinjg gets Gooood!!

Those toms are used to getting all they want early in the spring and when the hens start nesting they get really lonely!!

That is my experience, anyway. Hunting is usually best the last of the season around my area!

Ditto...early season for me is they are always henned up until the 2-3rd weekend....

Sure they are. Ours had 16 hens when he came to the field. Hour and a half later 16 hens had to start looking for a new man.

The bird I killed late sat morning was all alone, the 3 longbeards I called in sunday afternoon were all alone(shot and missed) those birds came A LONG WAY,

Now here's what's funny, after I shot they jumped up and hit the ground and started gobbling and strutting again but they walked away and I couldn't get a shot, went back the next morning expecting to call those lonely birds right back to me....wrong... there were so many hens roosted with them it was scary...freakin turkeys lol

I called 2 young gobblers in Sunday morning and 2 hens got between us and the males and literally took them away from us...yesterday heard lots of gobbling on the roost but after 6:45 or so the woods got quiet. I'm guessing they got henned up too!
