Hickman county turkey hunters

Great numbers on our farm in Centerville! Jumped up a flock of about 20 birds last Saturday and say 3 Gobblers by themselves in another spot.
 
We do have a ton of birds but for some reason I have not seen near as may this year. We had a flock of over 100 2 years ago in the winter. I have a video I will try to post
 
As with most counties, the Hickman turkey population is location dependent, but overall, I'd say it is good. The areas my friends and I hunt have seen a recent increase in farmers using chicken litter as fertilizer (last few years) which has us a little nervous considering what many think is happening in nearby Lawrence county.

If you are referring to what is going on in Lawrence county, I'd refer you to Rockhound on here as he lives there and is far more involved than I. See the post below for some discussion of the situation there, which I believe has some merit to it.

Some may disagree, but personally I think chicken crap is the reason for the turkey downfall. I really see nothing else it could be but I'm not a biologist either.

At the Loretto meeting a big wig from the chicken house industry showed up to argue that they treated their litter before its spread but that's b.s. because I see the neighbors chickens leave one day and he's in there with a front end loader and a spreader the next day putting it on his hay fields.

I personally think some money has changed hands somewhere over a few years to keep the talk down but its getting to the point whoever was keeping it quiet can't anylonger.

Take a bunch of hormone, steroid, and disease ridden chicken crap and introduce it to the environment. I see nothing good coming of it.
 
I am also concerned about the heavy use of chicken manure on crop fields. Only 2 of my turkey spots are not close to or having it used on the property but I have several farms that it used every year. I hope it doesn't negatively impact the local flocks but I would be all for banning its use altogether just to be sure it doesn't pose a threat. I, like a lot of yall spend big money and lots of time preparing for hunting season and do not want some chicken crap to wipe out the birds we intend to hunt.
