I bought a new 2024 Honda pioneer 700-4 deluxe. I love the machine but this is rubbing me the wrong way. The dealer is saying (after I paid of course 😂 ) that this machine requires a 20 hour valve clearance/alignment. 20 hours! If I don't do it, then I risk losing the engine. So I ask about the service, $600 after only 20 hours! Seriously? I would rather Honda run the engine for 20 hours than to charge me $600 after 20 hours for a service. Anyone ever dealt with this??

I suspect the owner's manual recommends "inspecting" the valve clearance at 20 hours or 100 miles, whichever comes first. Unless it voided the warranty, I'm not paying stealership $600 to inspect valves that are likely within tolerance unless I can hear them ticking, which is unlikley. I have seen Pioneers with 1500+ miles on them still running strong and no factory valve adjustment performed to date. Good luck.

Try a different dealer. After my original dealer changed hands they started claiming all kinds of things my pioneer 700 needed to the tune of 1600.00!!! Changed to the Honda Dealer in Princeton KY and none of that was true, Mine is a 2016 model and to date other than the radiator I ran a sapling through, service, a front axle and a couple cv boots and mine get treated ROUGH!

I bought a Pioneer 500 back about 5-6 years ago - it was the same thing. I am pretty sure it was required to maintain the warranty. I had it done without hesitation - though I hated spending the money.
