I saw a lot of deer lost to round balls. Terrible penetration and even worse accuracy. Plus, you need a slow-twist barrel.I killed quite a few with patched round balls back in the early 90s.
I absolutely will not shoot a light 45-caliber pistol bullet out of a 50-caliber rifle. The difference is the thickness of a human fingernail, do you seriously believe you can see a difference in performance?
I've used .44's, .45's and full bore 50's, you can't see a difference.

You're been given multiple options that just plain work but you're too stuck on a full bore option. There's entirely too much difference between manufacturers on muzzleloader barrels. TC used to run bigger than a cva. There isn't really a standard unlike rifle barrels, or even custom barrels. There's a reason sabots are popular. You can get them to fit a tight barrel or even a loose barrel. Pistol bullets work because they were designed to work closer to that velocity range. I have no idea why powerbelts are junk, but it pretty common to see them shoot very well but they don't perform well on an animal. Most everyone raves on Barnes, and I just wasn't impressed with them.Right....

Light ? Who said light. I shoot Barnes TMZ 290 grain or the 300 grain Barnes expander if shooting under 100. Get some .458 sabots and a box of 400 grain Barnes originals if you want really heavy. The 240 grain .44 pistol bullet thing died 20 years ago ( my opinion )I absolutely will not shoot a light 45-caliber pistol bullet out of a 50-caliber rifle.

That's a great bullet as wellDon't you shoot a TC Omega? If so, I do as well with the max load of BH209 powder. I use the
Parker Productions Jacketed Ballistic Extreme 250gr. Extremely accurate. Haven't shot a deer with it yet though - I switched to this combo last offseason
What's not to like about sabots? Less lead fouling, better BC and you can mix and match for your bore size. Unless I'm reliving old ways, I can't see me using buffalo bullets or round balls.I will NEVER EVER use sabots! You have a 50-caliber gun. Why shoot a 45-caliber bullet?
