How do tags work

Its been farmland for quite some time, but its still called the landowner exemption, and I've never heard of it being challenged.

The regs just state that the primary purpose of the property should be agriculture, and I would wager a guess that is an extremely broad definition.
Trees are a commodity…

You dont have to pay for anything being a land owner but with the exemption you can ONLY hunt on your property... anywhere else you need a license. Also keep in mind...Persons born on or after January 1 1969 must have proof of a valid hunter safety education certification in order to hunt in anywhere Tennessee. The minimum certification age in Tennessee is 9 years old. Proof of certification must be on your person at all times when hunting within the state.
Actually...

Hunters hunting under the landowner exemption are exempt from Hunter's Safety requirements.

I don't get how tags work. I am brand new to deer hunting, pardon my ignorance. I am in zone 2 (Campbell county) in East TN. I have private property that I hunt (my own) si I do not have license I need to buy, but do I have to buy a tag if I take a deer, not sure what I have to pay for.

Thank you

Yes and they are also exempt from wearing blaze orange on their own land. But to me, that seems to be a bit too risky with some of the hotheads we have as neighbors.
I built a dang condo out in the woods with a toilet in it, and we still wear orange. Just not gonna take any chances.

I have chest coveralls and a jacket that are blaze orange head to do. Thats what I wear on public land.

I told my wife if anyone shoots me, she will have the easiest court case ever.
