30 yards is my max distance with the bow. I tried a head shot on one last year at 37 yards and missed...took out 2 fan feathers though lol

What's interesting about the results of the poll, are that nearly 1/3 have maximum shots greater than 50 yards now. I suspect that is 10-15 yards more than a generation ago. Also, I expect that even more would have fallen into longer ranges had the question been worded to ask the maximum range that your equipment could kill a turkey, since, some restrict their shot distances for sportsmanship reasons.

Turkeys tend to hang up just outside that 50 yd range so the added effective range could make the difference in many situations between success and eating tag soup. Just as ducks got used to seeing roboducks and deer started looking up for danger, I expect turkeys will make the adjustment too. Enjoy the advantage while it lasts.

That's because a large portion of hunters are the new breed of kill at all costs hunters. They don't care about the game only the score at the end. If they could shoot them with rifles they would to compensate for their lack of skills.

I asked if we could do this without the usual criticism. I guess that's too much to ask. Unbelievable.

What's really unbelievable is the amount of unethical so called "hunters" there are out in the woods these days. 50 plus yards with a shotgun is an unethical shot in my book, regardless of gun or ammo.
