how have you killed the most turkeys

The majority of my birds have been between 9-11 am. I have killed most of them by hearing them gobble. Moving in as close as I can possibly get, then calling softly.

CC you know what those spurs are made for??

Yes I do. I figured if I ever grab one it be a good fight and I will tote the scars. lol

I use to not think like that until I had about 100 walk by me one time while I was laying flat down in a field. Thought how fun it would be to reach out and touch one. Yep they were that close. friggin awesome!

I will be out there on opening day before sunrise, but from what I've heard here, most seem to kill sometime closer to midday, so I will stick it out as long as I can till I have to head home around 3pm at the latest. Hopefully the rush of hunters on the WMA will fade out around lunch time if I haven't seen any birds by then.

Catman529,

A great strategy for public land is locate a bird in the morning, find out what he does once he hits the ground, and if you can kill him great. But, if not, be back again that evening. Move into the area that he flew down to 2-3 hours before sunset and wait. Very rarely do you have any competition on public land in the evenings.

I'd have to take off work for the night because I work at 5pm and would have to leave the area around 3. But hopefully I will be successful either in morning or midday...

Runnin and gunnin! I never sit anywhere for long if a birds not talking to me! I log my hours on stand in the Fall, Turkey hunting is way more fun for me when im on the move. I love to locate them on the roost before daylight, or even the night before, but a bird gobbling well after daylight is usually a very good suspect as well!

Most I have taken have been heard, cut the distance, get set up and call them in. A few have been in blinds where they want to end up mid day and wait on them. A few have been bushwacked and hate to say it but I really like putting a sneak on them and wack em! Only once have I set up and had them fly down and come right to my set up. I know it works but hey, I'd rather get another 2 hours sleep and be more successful than get up at 3 and wait on daylight for a hour listening for a bird that gets you all excited and then breaks your heart. Kinda like going to a strip club. Whats the point? haha I still do it but much more successful between 9 am and noon. (turkey, not strip club)

1 I walked up and shot while he was fanned out facing away.
2 was killed in the rain as he walked past the blind. Ambush
3 and 4 were killed running after my b- mobile to whoop his butt!!
5 was killed when I called him and his buddys in from like 300 yards away. It took them a while to get there but he came a lond way to get killed!! It was my only jake! lol
