everyone who has hunted turkeys has come across a bird that gets hung up rather its a creek a fallen log or just a bush in a wrong spot. but whats the craziest thing you have called a bird across that you thought would hang him up. Last year i called three birds in that should have hung up. opening day of ms season i called two gobblers across a creek with 3 hens at 5 in the afternoon and killed the strutter, in missouri called three gobs across a river mid morning, killed the strutter, and 2 days later in kansas called one across 2 barb wire fences and a gravel road my buddy killed. great year killed several birds but i know this year i will come across a bird that wont come in and i will get frustrated and hunt him for days before i bump him or kill him. But i cant wait
 
I've called them across creeks, and a river. i even called them across a road. One thing i haven't been able to do is to get one to comee across a fence. Seems like the fence gets me everytime.
 
A river, a road/fence. Doubled up with a buddy last season in which one of the birds came straight through a fresh blow over, after the other strutted around it
 
Called one across 2 acres of swamp. He flew down to an island dry spot and gobbled his brains out. I tried calling soft and waiting him out, but after a solid hour of gobbling in the same spot i changed tactics. I paced back and forth about 30 yards along the edge cutting and yelping. He gobbled and i gobbled back at him. He double gobbled twice and got quiet. I sat down and about 5 minutes of silence later i heard wing beats and he landed right in front of me. Never been so surprised to see a turkey.
 
I called one a few years ago across Norris Lake on a chuck swan hunt. Bird was gobbling on the other side, I was bored and just kept making him gobble. After about 10 minutes I see something sailing towards me, and he lands 20 yards away. I was totally unprepared got busted and never had a chance to kill him.
 
I've had one coast across a valley before,after he was on the ground. Got busted shortly after he landed. Definitely caught me off guard.

:D I agree, and I laughed for quite while about what my face must have looked like afterwards. Dang turkeys, even when you think you're winning you're still losing.
 
my first gobbler last spring was one of 3 gobblers that was hammering on the other side of the river, while I was calling on my side of the bank against a dead tree. Turns out, there were hens on my side, and those boys wanted the hens. I watched em come right down to the edge of the water and then heard them fly across. They hammered for a while out of sight on a shelf down by the river level, while I was on top of the bank with my shotgun and camera on tripod. I wasn't taking video when a red and blue head popped up not 5 yards away, saw me, started to putt and went back down the bank. All of the turkeys... 3 gobblers and a few hens, went up the bank a little further down out of sight where I soon saw them going across the field, to another hunter who had set up a blind and decoys 350 yards away. The toms were strutting their way over there with the hens. Not much longer and I heard a shot. Peered around the bushes into the field and the birds were just standing around.... then they started coming my way. I was in the corner of the field by the river. I got ready and the first hen came by... then followed by a gobbler... boom flop, first long beard down. Got pics with the other hunter who was visiting from arkansas for the week to hunt the WMA. We carried our birds out together, it was an awesome hunt I will never forget.
