Longtime NFL scout predicts Jalen Hurd to lead SEC in rushing over Leonard Fournette

"In a piece recently run on NFL.com, Brandt was asked to make a 'fearless prediction' about the upcoming college football season. His prediction was that Fournette would not lead the SEC in rushing and would be surpassed by Hurd in that category"

Tennessee's Jalen Hurd will rush for more yards than LSU star Leonard Fournette. Hurd, a big, physical back, rushed for 1,288 yards last season, when UT had three returning starting offensive linemen. This year, the Vols have four returning O-line starters, and on top of that, he'll have a left tackle who redshirted last year blocking for him in Drew Richmond, who has the potential to be a very good player.

Other fearless picks from NFL media included Bucky Brooks predicting Fournette to rush for over 150 yards in every game, Lance Zierlein picking LSU's Arden Key to lead the SEC in sacks and Chase Goodbread picking Fournette to not make it to New York as a Heisman-finalist by the end of the regular season.......
So you got one guy who picked Hurd over Fournette, and another who don't think fournette he will be a Heisman finalist.. those are fearless predictions lol...

Both are very good backs, but I think I would take LF (no not bcse I hate TN) over Hurd. I will say this though, I would take Hurd over any of our rbs. Although out of all of our rbs our freshman (brother of OK rb) Lamicale Perine will turn out to be really really good.

He shares snaps with Kamara and Dobbs, so I do not think he will beat Fournette. He is a dang good back though.
yup, Hurd got 1,300 last year, six 100 yard games, If he can turn that Six into a 8 this year which is very possible 1,500 yards is not outta the question. I don't see him getting any where close to 1,900 like LF did last season.

I see LF with 1800+ yards this year. I see Hurd with fewer yards than last year

possible I guess, for Hurd to get lets say 1,200 yards...88 yards less then last year. his avg. yards per game would have to go down 7 yards to like 92 yards a game. I just don't see that. Hurd will have 6 or 7.. 100 yard games if they use kamara more or not. his gonna get over 1,300

I think Hurd will get 100 yards first 4 weeks of season right out of the gate.

Bingo.

Although, I do see a scenario where, if the OLine has progressed as expected, he may well have more yards, and on fewer attempts. It would help a LOT if he isn't having to dodge/fight off a defender as he is getting the snap in the backfield :D !

I really hope Dobbs carries go down, because if they do, it means that the offense is producing. A lot of Dobbs runs/yds were when we were forced into 3rd and long situations, and he ran on passing downs, either because he had to or by design.

The offense is going to be tough to defend.

I'm more worried about the offense then I am the defense giving up big plays/big points this year. I don't see any SEC east team we play putting up big offensive #'s against them.

Hurd, and Kamara will have there yards/Tds.

Hope Dobbs stays healthy especially being his last year like to see him go out playing, and not on the sidelines.

I think the passing game will be a little better not much. Dobbs another year older most Receivers back. Offensive line a little older/stronger.

Career stats and both are Jr.

JH - 2184 yards and avg. 4.7 ypc 17 TD

LF - 2987 yards and avg. 6.1 ypc 32 TD

I have never seen LF run on a treadmill but it's a no brainer.

The debate Hurd not getting the same # of touches and sharing the ball is not totally correct. JH stats show that he has the same opportunities as LF but LF gets the most out of his carries. JH has 467 career carries and LF has 487 career carries. LF has only carried the ball 20 more times in his career but he has made the most of his carries with a 6.1 yard avg. LF's 1.4 more ypc was the difference of 681 yards.

LOL what would LF stats look like if he had been running behind UTs line and vice versa ;) ? Chew on that a while and spin it how you wish.

They are both great backs and will have great NFL careers. Not bad for a tight end, huh rofl ?

Yeah i never said Hurd was a better HB the LF. I Never even said Hurd will have more yards then LF. I actually said Hurd will not come close to 1,800 yards or anything crazy. Just it's very possible for Hurd to have 1,500 yards (200 more then last year) probably 12+ tds again.

His gonna own the Tennessee all time carer rushing record after the season. Only needs 1000 yards to pass guys like Travis Henry & Arian Foster... by the way it took them 4 years to step into the top two spots Hurd gonna take the #1 Spot in 3 years.

Should have more then 1,314 yards this season too be inside the top 5 single season rushing leaders for Tennessee.

Another 12tds puts him as 3ed all time Tennessee career TD leader..... the other two on the list played 4 years.

He will get drafted... yeah I agree not bad for a Tightend.

Another 1,100 yards he would move behind Emmitt Smith in 3ed for all time career rushing leader on florida's list.

His 1,288 yards was already good enough to get him 5th on florida's single season record. He will end up right behind emmitt on that list also with 1,308.

Now we are going to blame the UT O-Line since the stats prove Hurd almost has the same # of carries??? :D What about LSU QBs unable to throw the ball the last two seasons and only able to complete 53% of their passes. I'm sure teams knew that and put 8 to 9 guys in the box to stop LF. We can use that as an excuse also but it has nothing to do with the original post. Too much orange kool-aid drinking around here!! :D The fact of the matter is that LF breaks more tackles and is a better running back. I hate LSU also and there's no reason for me to be a LF fan but he's the better back.

Talk about a spin, now we are going to blame the O-Line when the stats prove differently???? Now we are going to change the subject from who will have the most yards this season to both playing in the NFL...... Spin.. Spin... Spin. :rotf:

This debate had nothing to do with UT's O-Line or if they would play in the NFL. It had to do with which back would have the most yards this season and some wanted to use the excuse that Hurd wouldn't get the touches. That's just not true and their stats prove it. LF will have the most yards if he doesn't get injured because history shows it.
