When I started watching competition archery on Archery TV (You Tube) it is apparent Hoyt dominates. Also many of those shooters aren't sponsored, they shoot Hoyt cause they prefer their bows.

BUT, a person should decide which bow manufacturer has a bow that feels right to themwho cares what everyone else is shooting. Going with or against what the masses shoot can be the differenceit all depends on which bow is the right one.

Y'all here TNDeerGuy??? Just remember he is Mathews0 archery nmero uno fan boy! He mainlines the Mathews Kool-aid intravenously!

You do know you're probably gonna be eating those words soon right? ;)

How so? You gonna shoot Mathews/Mission X-Bow?

DC, did not realize that I was trying to argue with anyone. The reason for this thread was to get different ideas of comp bows to look at. There are 2 lines that I will not consider PSE and Elite. I have not heard good things about either. I was at a 3D shoot the other day and over heard a good shooter complaining about his bow. His words were "Half Of Your Trouble(HOYT). His words not mine. Could be the persons tuning his bow. Does not mean I will not look into Hoyt. So DC which Hoyt would you suggest instead of schooling me on not drinking Mathews Kool-aide.

oh yeah make sure and check out the Conquest 4 and if thinking of a used bow I am currently shooting the Triumph and love it. been shooting it for a few years. Had the C4 before it and it was a shooter also.

Lets us know what you get regardless of brand! I love bows..period

Possibly making the switch to either Hoyt or Elite...not sure, on which or if at all, but something else might be in my future.

The problem with buying any tournament bow is that you can't take them for a test drive! Hardly any dealer will stock a target bow because of so many variables! This leaves us to rely on our friends or perhaps an acquaintance at the range that will let you shoot their bow!

The next question that you should answer, is what am I going to do with this new target bow? FITA, NFAA, or 3D? I'm guessing you're leaning towards 3D? If your draw length falls in the 28-29 range then a bow with an ATA of 35 to 38 inches will fill the bill nicely.

Some of the bows I like and would consider are the Bowtech Specialist, Mathews C4 (buy it used, it has a lot of vibe too but nothing like the Apex) 7, G5 Prime Impact, and my number one recommendation would be the new Hoyt Pro Edge Elite which is an updated Alpha Elite. I had an Alpha Elite and it was a superb bow! I would avoid any Mathews Triumph unless I had written proof that the bow has had the new limb pockets installed. Mathews brought the Triumph to market with a known flaw in the limb pockets. Ask TNDeerGuy about his trouble with the Triumph. The Pro archers have shunned and avoided the Triumph almost since day one!

Furthermore, I will re-iterate my mantra about taking control of tuning your own bow and equipment yourself! It's not rocket science, read all that you can about tuning your own gear, and ask questions! Buy the gear a little at a time. It doesn't take a lot of room for the equipment, What you gain along the way is priceless!

Begin by learning first hand what works and what doesn't! Keep in mind that there are a lot of idiots who don't know squat about a bow, but they sell them and set them up everyday! One of the larger Mathews dealer in the state is owned by a guy that doesn't shoot a bow or bowhunt, and he runs a glorified bait shop that sells archery equipment! I fix a lot of the problems that this dealer sends out the door!

Avoid dealers like this and avoid their brand loyalty gossip!

What would do you more good than anything, is to load up and start going to some of these ASA shoots. Get in there and mix it up with other shooters outside of the local shoots and see for your own self how good some of these bows shoot that you have been told aren't any good. Elite is one of the few companies that offer a LIFETIME TRANSFERABLE warranty. They also pay more contingency money for amateur shooters in ASA/IBO than any company I'm currently aware of. Don't let the scare tactic talk about 2 track binary cams & cam lean fool you. The ones spewing that garbage are just repeating hearsay. They said the same thing to me when I got my Elite and tried to scare me into something else. And I ended up taking that bow to the podium in Florida ASA, and won out of my class last yr, and won several hundred dollars with it. All I heard was how terrible Elite bows were and that I'd never get it to shoot. WRONG!

Now for some fun.

Look close in this pic. If you add everything up, there's about $20,000 worth of good things about those two bow companies you said you wouldn't consider. The top 3 in Open Pro @ the latest ASA shoot. Two Elites and a PSE. That's not counting what they did in the amateur classes.

Out of the top 5 Open Pro shooters, only one Mathews made it to the shoot down @ Benning. I circled it for you in case you might over look it.

When you get your Apex 7 or Conquest 4...ask Jeff to throw in a Mathews umbrella so you can at least own something that can still make it to the podium and shootdowns lol Disclaimer...that was just a joke for you fanboys. Don't get all bent out of shape.

Local TN shooter from my shop took 1st in Open B with his E35! But you need to shoot as many bows as possible to find the one that fits you best. Don't rely on what others tell you to make your decision on what is better for YOU!!! A whole lot of things go into a good tournament bow also what stabilizer system you put on and how it is setup also makes a big difference on holding the bow on target.
