I don’t trust ratchet straps.

A little tip, after deer season ends release the rachet strap so the tree growth each year will not break your strap in a couple years and also loosen the chain a little,by time next season roles around the strap and chain will have tighten back up.I used to didnt do this and had a couple ladder stands where the straps had brokened and tree grew over the chain!
Good thinking!

I replace or add a new strap each season. I primarily hunt out of hang ons and when I hang a new stand I always have the black pull type strap that comes with them and 2 ratchet straps. Then before each season add or replace a strap. I have some stands that have 5 or 6 straps on them now.

Most of my ladder stands have been in place so long they don't need anything. The trees have grown around the part of the stand that contacts the tree. But I have a couple that I change out straps every year. When I hunted out of loc-ons I always used chain with a binder.
I've hunted out of a few of those type ladder stands 🤣

Back in 2005, I had a strap fail before I could hook my belt to the tree, and I fell about 17'. Since then, every stand gets a minimum of two fresh straps ( usually three ) each season. The stand might let go in other areas, but it ain't gonna be the straps that do it.

With 50 ladder stands in place year round, I'm pretty careful about ratchet straps. I buy about 25 new ones each year. Every stand and strap is inspected each year, and any that show any wear at all are replace before the season starts. Good ones usually last about 3 seasons.

Good idea Wrangler. I mainly use ladder stands, or climbers. On ladder stands, I've always used two straps at the top, replacing one of them every year or two. The old ones then get used to pull the steps/brace on a ladder stand towards the tree. Or downgraded to strapping monster bucks on to my ATV!! 🤣 🤣

Before the season starts, I'll put up one of these on my ladder stands. After the season is over, I take em down. Never had to rely on one, but good to know there is something else in case there is a catastrophe, such as slipping of a rung in the dark. I usually buy them in 3-packs.

Oh, Iglow, what's up with the pink chain? 🤣 Just razzin you man! Good thread to start.

I always put 2 ratchet straps on a ladder stand for backup purposes. I guess there's a 3rd one if you count the stabilizer bar.
